DLO HomeDock HD - Appreciation Thread. Finally got one in my grubby little hands!

I finally got my DLO HomeDock HD today. I was excited to get one because I already have a DLO HomeDock Deluxe that works well with my bedroom TV, and I wanted the upgraded compact dock with HDMI and Optical Digital Output. The Wadia was just too big for my needs.

I will write up my impressions as I spend more time with it. So far with just a little listening time, using lossless files on my 80gb iMod, going optical out into my Apogee mini-DAC and then listening to my balanced Denon D2000 - it sounds just like the original CD or Macbook digital out.

The remote has a button on it that allows using the iPod display instead of a monitor connected to the dock, so I can use it in my headphone rig and not need to hook up a TV. And it uses an RF remote so it works through walls (I likely wont use that feature). If I want to use the analog output with my iMod, I can still run an RCA-mini from the dock into my portable Vcap dock, and then RCA-RCA into an amp.

I'll test it later with the S-video out and HDMI out on my HDTV in the bedroom, but my main interest in this $250 dock is the bit-perfect digital output to feed into a DAC.

Where did you get it and how much was it?
I wonder how the digital out compares to the Wadia 170 iTransport.

It was $250 at best buy locally. I haven't had much time to listen the past couple of days, but expect more time from this point on. So far it still sounds like using optical out of my Macbook or CD player.

at $50 on amazon.com this cannot be beat!  I have had it hooked up in my main system feeding a digital switch for a few months now and it works as advetised.  I have no TV hooked up, just plug my pido into it, use the optical digital out to my DAC et voila!  pure digital sound from my ipdo for a fraction of the price of the wadia.  what more could anyone ask for?  T

Holy thread resurrection - I forgot all about this thread.  I use my DLO homedock HD now only to watch videos on my HDMI TV from iPhone, kinda like a mobile Apple TV.  The optical out is very good sounding through a nice DAC, but the more I listened to music via optical out of my Macbook the more I realized that the optical out of the DLO was closer to just using the line out of the iPod but with an "Apogee mini-DAC flavor" to it.  With my iMod it was very close to the original CD comparing a Marantz CDP into the Apogee, but with 24/96 music my Macbook is a better sounding transport into the mini-DAC.  I forgot about this thread and never posted more impressions.

I think I'll still end up with either a Wadia dock or the Denon dock with digital out some day.  After my observations I was told by someone at DLO that the optical out is just a digital conversion of the analog line out of the iPod, in order to make it easier for people to connect their iPod to their HDTV and AVR.
