Depends how much you shop around to find the best deal.

 

The Onkyo dock had good reviews too IIRC.

Sold my Cary, got an Ayon CD-5 ($9500 new).  Absolutely killing the Cary from top to bottom!  It's crazy good.  I would love to compare it to the Esoteric stack, but none around here that I know of.

 It was a Cary 303/200, a good player but nothing like this.  I got mine used on a'gon for a pretty decent price I think.  The guy I bought from was funding an Audi RS, not a 5s.  I'm not sure the logic of selling a CD-5 to buy a 5s.  The upgrade is the DAC circuit board which can easily be installed in the 5.  I'm not sure what the price of the upgrade is but I'm sure it's much less than the discount the used players are going for on a'gon.

Not sure if OP is still updating this list, but I now have:

 

$7,295 - Sonic Frontiers SFD-2 Mk III + D2D-1

$2,000 - Hertsens Signature DAC

 

edit: MSRP on the SFD-2 Mk III is a little off: Mk II was 5295 + 1300 (for Mk III upgrade) + 700 for the Assemblage D2D-1
