I will very likely be attending this meet. I will probably be bringing:

-ß22 (Active Ground version)
-Sony MDR-SA5000
-Audio Technica ATH-W11JPN or ATH-W2002 (if I can find a second carrying case, I may even bring both).
-Not sure about the source. I don't really have a good one yet.

Nate, if it is not proprietary info,
What tubes are you using and which ones are for what?

Does it sound as good as it looks?

Im leaning towards not.

Did you mean to ask Ari that question?

If not and you are asking a Menace-specific question my amp uses 5AR4/5U4 types for the rectifiers, a 6SN7 type for the gain stage and 6AS7/6080/5998 types on the output.

if the Q was for me:
the amp is generally set up for 6sn7 tubes. there is some flexibility in tube selections, but not as much as a singlepower.

The 2 in the front are the gain tubes. They can be pretty much anything that can handle 6mA plate current & 160V.

The 2 in the middle can be anything that can handle about 12-15ma plate current & 2.5W dissipation. 6sn7, 7n7, 12bh7, 5687, some 12a*7 variants. There is a "secret" tube i want to try here, but it wont be ready for the meet.

The 2 way in the back MUST be a 6sn7/7n7 tube.

im not exactly sure what tubes im going to bring.

I've never been to a meet so I have some questions.

If I bring gear, do I have a place to set it up for others to use? Also, I can go around to listen to other people's gear?

Sorry for being a noob.

AFAIK, there are no assigned seats except for some MOT's. In the past its largely been first come, first with table space.

Yes, you can listen to other peoples stuff. Thats the whole point (newb ) Siiburning usually posts some guidelines for listening at large meets in the gear-list.

Thanks for the post. However, I couldn't open the link. For some reason, that website is block from my work computer. I'll read the guidelines once I get home.

The deal is that everyone gets space at a table to set up their gear. It's all very informal and there's no need to designate space, unless you are a vendor with tons of stuff.

You set up your gear and then make your way around the room trying out different rigs. Everyone understands how valuable and fragile headphone gear is, so everybody's rig is treated with the utmost respect. There really is no need to worry about anything getting damaged or stolen. I would recommend that you label things like cables or headphone adaptors that could easily get confused with other people's stuff. I lost a Zu Pivot once at a meet. I'm sure it just got confused with someone else's.

A friend of mine works for Turtle Beach. They just came out with a new gaming headphone, the X4. Is anyone interested in checking it out? If so, I might be able to convince them to come out or at least loan us a pair. They should be good for movies, too, as they have 5.1 surround sound.

any word on other vendors yet? will jack woo, john g, vinnie, justin, tyll, or mikhail (or is someone persona non grata) be there? also, i think beyer dynamic is hq'd on long island. they've never joined us. perhaps it's time to extend an invite to them. ray will be there with his new mini amp, won't he? mebbe powderhound can be convinced to leave colorado's powder for a day or two and debut the westone 3s publicly!
