Beyerdynamic DT770 or JVC HARX900?

So I discovered this site a few months ago and true to reputation, I'm ready to spend some money now!

For my first post I figured I'd ask for some advice on what to get. So if people could be kind enough to answer some questions, I'll state my case.

I'm looking for some headphones around $100 and I love the mids specifically female vocals. Comfort is a big deal as these'll be worn for long periods of time. I listen to a pretty wide variety but mostly pop/rock, trance, new age, ambient, and some jazz and flamenco. I was contemplating the Audio-Technica AD700 but read it's not the strongest when it comes to mids. With the JVC thread stating that it's similar to the AT headphones I was wondering if it was weak in the mids as well? And if it is a bit weak, is the DT770 worth the higher price than the x900? Sorting out the opinions on the DT770 are a bit tough with all the different versions. From what I understand the one on sale at Amazon has a more balanced sound compared to it's older versions but I haven't really seen much opinion on how it handles the mids.

Feel free to recommend other headphones. I've contemplated the Denon D1001 but the cable looks flimsy and I don't want to attempt modding it. I also ruled out Sennheiser because of comfort. Grado looks tempting but people seem to be very polarized in their opinions on the SR60/80. Did I miss anything else that I should look at?

And finally I'd just like to say this site is awesome. Head-Fi has some of the least amount of flaming I've ever seen on the internet for a public forum.

Edit: Oh and I don't care whether or not the headphones isolate as they're gonna stay at home.

The DT770 on Amazon are the consumer edition.
Other DT770 are Pro(fessional) editions, for studio purposes.
The consumer edition has very good mids. Not weak or recessed, but rather strong and bold.
I have no experience with the JVC.

So based on this, the DT770/250 selling for ~$120 on Amazon would be the better choice; however it requires amping. So the DT770 seems to be out of the OP's budget.

FWIR, the AD700 does not lack in mids; it's light on bass heft. I don't know about the female vocal mids of the JVC models or D1001.

How are you going to use them at home? While the DT770 2005 Consumer requires amplification, it runs exceptionally well out of the headphone jack on the receiver I have hooked up to my PC. It hasn't liked my HeadFive quite so much, strangely enough.

They'll be plugged into a relatively low end receiver but I'm pretty sure it has enough power to drive the DT770. I figured that if I was going to get the DT770 I would try it w/o buying an amp and only get one if I felt it needed the extra power. While buying an amp does increase the price, it's actually down to 108 on Amazon now which is why I started considering it. The sale makes it quite tempting and I tend to buy components one at a time so that I can decide on an individual basis if I need to add something to fit my preferences. Because I wouldn't get the amp right away, I can justify in my head buying a slightly more expensive headphone. It's good to know that it doesn't have a problem with the mids. Thanks for the advice.
