EVERYONE has a hobby they spend too much on. That might be headphones, clothes, cars, drugs, etc.. 

 

I have handed people great headphones and received a 'meh' from them. It's understandable, I don't get the appeal of putting rims on a car, or why someone would spend $150 for a pair of jeans when I could get a good pair for $35. As long as you enjoy it and it makes you happy, that's all that matters. If someone wants to put you down for the money you spend on headphones, that's on them.

in 1988 I already used e-mails (yes, internet was already there with other names), and friends and parents coming in my home stared to that big XT PC asking: really you paid 1,800 $ just to receive and send this "mail"? really? are you insane?

perhaps in 2030 all people will use expensive headphones on their way

I deal with this one a fair bit in one way or another.  I usually try to avoid the conversation.  My biggest peeve is when you try to show something to someone and the first question is "how much?"  The relate the importance on the monetary value, then apply that to their priority system.  I have had this happen with more than one hobby.

Exactly. I get pissed off when someone asks this, and it seriously brings down my opinion of their comprehension abilities and IQ.

All a matter of preference and priorities.

 

My usual response is $100+.

Explain to them that a pair of good headphones is like going from a small box TV to a big 65 inch Plasma HDTV to watch a foot ball game, you can listen to music with cheap earbuds that came with your phone, but It gets so much better!

Any earbud or headphone that costs over $50 is crazy to some of my friends, while others think that any headphone that is over $200 that isn't Beats is stupid. Teenagers... tongue.gif

Me and my friend were at Walmart because he wanted to buy some new earbuds because he blew his old ones out (I know its sad we went to Walmart, but he doesnt care about quality, and you'll see what i mean)

 

Me: Get these ones, they have okay sound quality (I hadn't heard much better at the time)

Him: Nah, these ones(JVC Gumy) are cheaper (8 vs 10 bucks)

Me: These ones (Sony MDR 7506 i think) have audible bass.

Him: But these ones are cheaper.

Me: These ones won't blow out as easily and are louder at lower volume levels

Him: But these ones are cheaper.

Me: Meh, whatever... you can make a bad choice if you really want to.

Him: mumbles.

 

Some people just don't care about quality in some things. (and he buys $400 swimsuits to shave off .01 seconds that only last 1 year)  It's just better to stop caring.

Lol that reminds me, I was trying to sell my EPh-100s and B2s on craigslist... One of my friends said, "are you selling headphones on craigslist?"
Me:"yeah, why?"
Him:"thought so, you're the only one who would spend more than $50 on headphones..."

although i havent even bought a real expensive headphone.. i wonder if i ll ever be able to get hold of HD600 with all the criticism flying around at home

When people tell me I'm mad for "wasting" so much money on head gear, I simply say to them. If you think I've spent much on head fi, you wanna see how much I spend on night vision equipment to watch your mrs in the shower!

Best solution: ignore them. Don't bother explaining it to them, they won't understand. It's like parents and gaming.
