Sennheiser IE8 Appreciation Thread - Page 512

My phone drives it fine, although I did go into iTunes and increase the levels so I could REALLY fry my eardrums....

Another odd thing - my 2nd gen Nano (the first aluminum one I think) sounds a lot louder than my phone - all things being equal - I can't figure that out.... maybe a different output voltage?

not sure about the IE8, with IE80 I turn down the volume to near the lowest possible on my ip4s when listening to music in my office. A few times I unintentionally turned it into a mute. That just tells how effortlessly it is for the ip4s to drive the Ie80.

Forgive me if I'm entering territory that's already been trod, but I'm at a loss to narrow down my search criteria on amazon /ebay and various other hifi sites and am in need of a little nudge in the right direction.

I bought a pair of ie8i's last week, they're by far, the loveliest sounding earwear I've ever owned, and as well as using em outdoors with my phone, I want to plug into my indoor set-up and enjoy them there too.....

Is there such a thing as a 3.5mm stereo and mic(female) to 3.5mm stereo(male) adaptor available? I notice that AKG supply one free of charge with their top end IEMs but haven't managed to find something similar anywhere else.

Even having a relaxing trawl through forums on here, I'm struggling to identify exactly what I'm searching for.

Any guidance you can throw my way?

A pricey option would be to order the standard IE8 cable, but you should be able to use the IE8i cable in a stereo setup,  I had a few small issues when I was using the IE8i cable with my Fiio E10 but a little maneuvering of the cable in the jack fixed it.  It was more of an issue with the FIIO than the IE8i

3 more month and i will be using my IE8 for 3 years already... time pass so fast :)

And with good earphones even more faster!

But the difference in sound sig difference might be the doing of the stainless steel casing on the ie80.

It does change the sound sig but don't necessary improve it.

Else senn would have name it ie9/ie90 instead.

Naming it ie80 with a similar price tag tells ppl of that it's of a different version of the ie8 and if any, only sound different but not really a warrant for upgrade.

Can't blame the guys around here, our ie8 was really lasting, perhaps most of us are finding a better replacement but ie80 wasnt yet the answer.
 

Hey guys, I own a pair of Sennheiser IE8 and I've set my own EQ for itunes but was wondering what is the best custom EQ setting to really bring out the details of the IE8s. I own a PA2v2 amp but it's a bit big to carry with my iPhone and I'd like to buy a fiio e6 but then it would render my ie8i cable useless so now my only approach is to set a custom EQ to bring out the most of my Sennheisers without an amp. Thank you.

Here's my custom EQ settings, tell me what I can do to make the Sennheisers even better without an amp. Mind you I don't have a clue on how to set a good EQ, a friend of mine set these settings on my soundcard and I just replicated it onto itunes EQ for my iphone.

64K +2dB

125K +2dB (on my soundcard it's 120k but itunes doesn't have 120k so I figured I'd just adjust 125k)

8k +2dB

16k +2dB

There's no such thing as a best EQ setting. Every single person has to use there own settings and adjust to there own likings

Exactly its a personal thing. I just like the fact that I don't have to stress out over using any form of EQ to enjoy my IE80s. Find the sound that sounds best to you in general with all of your music and stick with it or drive yourself insane lol.

And yeah, I know EQ is a personalized thing but I just wanted to try what everyone uses to see if maybe someone has something I like too since I don't really have a clue on what to tweak.

Might i suggest a EQ with settings as per posted above?

I do know u do not welcome/believe in EQ, but whether it's ie8 or ie80, i've EQ'ed only to find myself liking my iems even more.

Heck, i've used my ie8 for 2 years without any EQ.

Until i've gotten my hd650 when i felt something was missing on the ie8.

EQ to me is like an amplifier, there are good and bad ones.

Amplifier changes the sound sig by analogue, and inevitably introduces noise.

EQ to me is digital alteration and once u used a good programe for it, the noise, if any is inaudible, plus it's free?

 

Well with the IE8 you have to use EQ to really get good sound out of it. That is what also turned me off from it. It generally won't sound good without using EQ and for such a pricey item I find that unacceptable.

I disagree, some like me may enjoy it's more laid back sound. It may just be a case of the sound signature not agreeing with your personal preferences.

I think it is source dependent.  I feel I "need" to EQ my IE8 with my J3 for them to sound great.  The preset BBE & BBE MP settings aren't quite as good as my EQ.

However, I am very content with the way my IE8 sound out of my NuForce HDP and my girlfriend's uDAC2.  These sources have a brighter presentation (to me) which I think is part of why they pair well.
