Transcendere S5, from China - Page 2

So, I bought this because I thought it looked pretty cool. It's my first headphone amp, and I really like it with my Sennheiser HD280's. I normally have it connected to my Ipod to listen to music, but I tried connecting it to my laptop via the USB cable. I've run it for about 36 hours all together so far, but I still hear this really bad noise. It seems to be coming from my laptop and it annoys the hell out of me lol, especially when watching a movie or listening to soft music. Is it the cable? Do I have to change it to a gold plated one?

Thanks
Amn Eric Tam

Edit: Okay, I found out that the sound is actually coming from the PS of my laptop. What can I do to filter this out or maybe reduce it?

So, has anyone tried out the Transcendere S5 tube amplifier and Trancendere speakers yet?

I was in the market for a pre amp  and was intrigued by this amp.

So I made a best offer on ebay for this amp, but a german made a better offer for which was apparently the last s5 ever produced. (claim by the seller)

The guy now offers the S6 mkII which has a "full circuit improved and front panel changed". They also abandoned the EL84 (which made me sad, I have some great NOS I'm dying to try out) and the looks aren't an improvement to my eyes... (why always those hideous blue leds? No prob to take them out but why?!)

Since I already set my mind up to the transcendere, I ordered the new version. It should arrive in 2 weeks tops!

The only thing it lacks is a headphone output! Damn, now I'm still looking for such a thing...

Ok, there is hope for the el84!

The seller himself claims in his ad the amp uses el84 power tubes, while this is obviously in contradiction with his pictures. But, I'm starting to think the mk2 uses the el84's!

On taobao this is how the mk2 looks like:

But shipping is another $99, so it's really a nearly $500 unit. Still, it looks like a nice combo. I am looking for a tubed USB input headphone amp for my office desk. This is more than I had planned on but it is interesting. Haven't had any luck finding reviews though.

How does $349 + $100 = $500? Is that the new, new math?

I wonder if the Leben CS300 is 6 times more worth it. The Leben is twice the wattage, but at this level 6-7 watts isn't going to be be a huge step for mankind.
