E-MU 1212m or 0404 USB - Page 2

So I decided to keep the EMU 0404 USB since I was in unique situation where the two would cost me the same amount.

But I want to stress that if I had to pay full price for the EMU 0404 USB I would have chosen the PCI.

The EMU 0404 pci is an excellent card.
I would highly recommend it. It's great value for the price and I wouldn't recommend people to pay double price for the 0404 USB.

To avoid confusion. The PCI uses AK4395 and the USB uses AK4396

I'll probably audition the Cambridge DACmagic soon and see if it offers better sound quality...

I'll just keep talking a bit to myself

Decided to keep the E-MU PCI instead as It clearly offers the the more musical D/A conversion...

my modded 0404 usb broke and i'm now using a behringer src2496. stock, it sounds better than the 0404.. but i've done a lot of tweaks to my system since i had to get the behringer. i'll know for sure when i get my 0404 back.

oh, the behringer uses an ak4393, 3 generations behind the 0404's 4396.. yet sounds quite equal or better than the latter. for one thing it's open, really open. tonality is good also.

Hello!

Did you audition and compare the 1212m with the DacMagic?

I assume you are on a budget, have you considered the Musiland monitor 02 US, can be picked up for 50 quid used, mine was only £80 new, its asynch 24/192 USB 2.0 and for the money sounds brilliant, provided you use the latest drivers, the new 03 which is a USB 3.0 device 32/324 is only £120
