If you like your bass, there's always Denons. ED9s are more refined though.

But, the Edition 9 really need the right amp to shine - my ALO Amphora is the only one to truly do them justice to my ears, and with the wrong amp they can be a little overpowering with dark treble. I didn't discover this until after I already had a buyer for my Ed 9 to pay for half of my EC ZDT amp. A partially modded/re-cabled Denon can also sound refined.

Actually the ESW10 has abit of a kick with particular amps. A RSA Predator w/ an ESW10 is like bombarding your self with jabs due to teh Preds fast attack. The bess bass I got from my ESW10 was pairing it w/ a Diablo with the bass tuned way down.

Currently pairing the ESW10 with a SR71A which is an amazing pair for my taste anyway. =)

Mmm Predator.

I am going to visit another Head-Fi`er in my town soon! Just found him. Anyway he has DT880s, D5000, D7000. Since HeadPhoneAddict got rid of his ED9s for the D2000 and stuff I thought the Denons would have better bass?

I was contemplating Pro900s and will probably get a pair, how much different are the ED9s? Do the Edition 8s have the same bass?

True. I had great experience with the ESW10+SR71a and P51. All sound awesome.

Keep in mind that the ED9 is far heavier and less comfortable than the ESW10. I still can't find a way to enjoy any Ultras, both in sound and comfort.

My partially modded Denon's bass is just a little slower than the Edition 9 bass, but goes just as deep and is just as powerful without the midbass hump - so the Edition 9 bass is slightly more detailed without overdoing it (with the wrong amp). My Denon were more comfortable with less clamp and more room for the ear, less fatiguing, not a fingerprint magnet, had balanced 4-pin XLR already, and I could get more money selling the Edition 9 for money to buy my ZDT amp. So that helped the decision.

The Edition 8 at CanJam seemed to have a little more controlled and even balanced bass than the 9, while the Ed 9 will shake your teeth loose if you let them. The Edition 8 didn't sound exciting at first, like the Edition 9. I didn't spend enough time with the 8, but I don't think I'm selling my ESW10JPN for a pair yet.

Totally agree on SR-71A and ESW10JPN, I truly missed the combo now. i really have to get another SR-71A as soon as I recover from the JHA13 Pro purchase.

Fiio E5?

Would a Fiio E5 make any difference to the esw10's? IF anyone has used this combination, could you share your thoughts? My Cowon pmp has 34mw + 34mw (16ohms), so do you think this would make any difference?

~I think what im actually pointing is, is there a chance the E5 will make esw10's sound quality worse than without it?
Because i am thinking of getting an e5, as sort of an inline volume control and to make the pmp battery last longer.

Why would you not have several portable cans you have tons of portable amps. Never trade ESW10 for ED8 get both!

I do have a few portable cans already, and I said I'm not selling the ESW10JPN yet - but I meant not likely ever.

For portable cans (at least ones that fold or pack up nicely) I have the ATH-ESW10, ATH-ANC7, HFI-700, and SR-60, KSC-35 in a light headband, KSC-75, PX-100 and PMX-100, plus all those IEM...

ESW10 and KSC35 are the best portable headphones I've tried. The KSC35 is much, much better than the KSC75 IMO. It's like a baby-HD650 to me.

I tried them on the train last week and they are not isolating enough unfortunately. They'll make good travel cans when I go places though, if I decide to keep them.

Isolation is not good at all, I still use my IEM for traveling. It did replace my HD600 when I work in the garden or take a walk around the neighborhood.

Besides easy pairing of ESW10JPN with amp. compared to the Edition 9, I also find ESW10JPN more forgiving in term of the source quality. I think the Edition 9 is a very sensitive can.
