Limited, wooden portable ATH-ESW10JPN arrives! (with pics) - Page 8

Mine says 0840 as well. So I am guessing the production date is correct.

Love these headphones, good looks, and very smooth sound. Has passed my reference music (Enya - Storms in Africa for bass, Nickel Creek for treble, and Diana Krall for midrange) I place them somewhere between the W5000 and the HD650 in terms of warmth. So much smaller than both. It has been way back when I wore the yellow foam sennheiser on ear headphones (modern at the time) since I used them much.

I have listened with the Raptor, and currently on the Predator. (was burning in on Predator overnight) These will by my travel phones to listen to the laptop via the Predator. Would be happy with them as my main cans, but pretty sure the circumaural cans are more comfortable to me for longer listening sessions.

Having trouble posting pics, will keep trying.

I'm finding I need to take the headphones off after something like 3 hours time. The pads build up pressure on the corners of my ears. The problem is I really dont want to take them off

I think if the headband loosens up much of this will go away. Its not much of a problem, since I usually don't go 3 hours without some sort of interruption at my office anyway.

I received mine this morning. Here they are!

So, out of the box they do definitely have an improved soundstage over the ESW9 as people have mentioned. Detail and separation I found noticably increased. The bass quantity is lower than the ESW9, however it is tighter even at this early stage in the ESW10JPN and more refined.

I really like the overall sound even now. They sound more balanced than the ESW9 and have a smoothness which is very nice to listen to. The slight muddyness of the ESW9 has disappeared in these. I expect them to improve over time as my ESW9 did. I REALLY liked my ESW9 out of the box and they were relatively quite bad before burn in compared to how they are today. So that has my hopes high for the ESW10JPN.

I read somewhere that the drivers, not the housing, is comparable in size to a lot of bigger circumaurauls, which would explain the bass response and soundstage, which would also explain, besides the wood, why these suckers can sound so good.

It is quite a unique phenomenon that many members here, who already have the 9's, have also bought the 10's. That says a lot for these cans.
You don't see a HD600 owner buying the 580's and the 650's and keeping them all. It's quite unusual and makes an interesting statement.

BTW- I can also be lumped into that small niche of a category

7 hours after placing the order, they were packed up and shipped out. Customer service at it's peak. I bought my 007t duo from them. They are great. So is EIFL and AudioCububes.

I have no problem wearing my 9's for extended times, but I have to take off my earring because the earcups push the pointy stud into my neck!

I just wish that the cord was about 10" longer, portable or not.

after having spent some hours with them I have to say that so far they are exactly what I had hoped for.
They have signifcantly more clarity than the ESW9 while stll retaining a lot of the lush/smooth signature of the 9s.
They definitely do have improved soundstage while retaining the same very portable size.
Very well done I'd say...

x2 on the cable, it is unfortunately not longer than the one on the 9s.

I moved away from my screen the first time after putting these on, giving my head a pull. These are portable headphones, with a short cord which is easier to manage on the go, and only mini plug, no 1/8th adapter even.

I also will be awhile adjusting to the clamping force and the on-ear pressure. The sound is good enough though to take the time to stretch them out, and build up tolerance of the ears.

I just checked PriceJapan's website, and the US price just went up to $545.00 after being $535.00 yesterday. Either the dollar conversion has fluctuated or the "Limited Edition" starts to run low the price will increment up.

This is excellent news, indeed. Validates the unnecessary purchase.

BTW- I am not sure what the quality of the E500 1/8" extension is, but in a pinch, I use it to extend the length of my ESW9 cord.

Unfortunately, as with a lot of headphones (701's, R-10's, etc.) I have to max out the AT's band because, as everyone knows, bigger head equates to more brains , not that I utilize them (the brains) as much as I should, mind you.

My ESW10s arrived today, the 23rd of October after leaving PriceJapan on the 20th! What fast shipping. I can't even mail a letter across town in that length of time.

Initial impressions: Very nice detail, instruments are tonally exact, bass surprisingly deep and tight, with the soundstage wider than I would expect from the size of the cups. Plus, after listening, I can truthfully say that the beauty is more than skin deep!

They seem to be built for my Head-Direct EF1, as sonically they are a perfect match.

It will be very interesting to see how additional hours of use affect the SQ, if at all.

Thanks for that, HiFlight. I have an EF-1 and it seems to magically mate really well with certain headphones.
The EF-1 is highly underrated and should be explored by more members, especially in it's pricepoint.

Sometimes you just stumble on something.

I have found incredible synergy between my D-25S headphone output and my ESW9's. Better that using the line out, amped. Stranger things have happened.

That'd be the USD=JPY rate going to hell. At least from what xe.com tells me, 1USD = 97JPY, which is pretty horrible. Used to be 1USD = 102JPY last week, and 1USD = 107JPY earlier in the year. The yen prices of ESW10JPN haven't budged much. A proxy like Kuboten or Shopping Mall Japan will get you a lower price than PriceJapan will, although likely taking a few days longer to get it to you.

There's also that lone one on ebay still sitting there (and a WTB posted by a headfier in the FS forum concerning it)...

The lone one on eBay should be bought with live cashback which is currently at 25% back.

Yeah, that's what the WTB is about; since the person posting is in Canada they can't take advantage of the cashback so they need a U.S. inbetween.

I just received my ESW10s too. I ordered on the 19th, it shipped on 19th, received em today. Incredibly fast service from Pricejapan!

Anyway initial impressions from my MBP through the Pico, the ESW10s sound very clear and detailed and like the others have said, the bass is there and its tight, not boomy, and the soundstage was surprisingly good for the housing size. The midrange sounds kind of like my old W5ks did I think, not as colored but it makes female vocals sound awesome. So far, I love it, its smaller than I thought it would be which is good since its going to be my%

oh boy, I'm selling my hardly-used cans to fund these.
I really gotta take a listen of these.

btw, anyone tried rock music with these? how are they compared to ESW9s in handling rock?
