Stereotypes can be negative or positive.

It is the same intellectual shortcut we make when we assume an as-yet unheard or unhandled headphone will either sound a certain way or be well-made, because of whichever brand happens to be stamped on it.

Which isn't to say that the shortcut is always wrong.
