And Xin is notorious for taking your money and not shipping anything out.

Run, run like hell.

I just like the design of the amps very good lay out

Yes his amps are good (I've had many of them) but in the last 1½ years I would guess that he has delivered less than 50 amps while received a lot more orders than that.
Read the sticky at the top of this section before proceding with an order and if you do, order by credit card and prepare for a VERY LONG wait.

His amplifiers are said to be top notch, both is sound and build quality.
Too bad his customer support is not on par.

I have seen people around here who placed their order and paid in ~April 2007, but still have not received the amplifier.

When I bought a super-mini from him, about 2 years ago, it came reasonably quickly, ie. in about a month and a bit (to the UK). Maybe he had one handily knocking about the place. Shame things things seem to have taken a turn for the worse...

Just like our 401Ks, past performance is not necessarily an indication of future performance.

But seriously OP, how could somebody new to portable amps possibly have gotten one other than used? How many different models of his amps have you tried to date to back up your comment that they are amazing? Are you a troll or a shill?

He was reading the home page for Xin with all the different models. If you look at that, the features and size, it is pretty impressive.

The other thing is that a lot has happened in the portable amp scene since Xin stopped delivering on any regular basis so any sq lead he maybe had 1½ years ago is probably all but eliminated today and most other suppliers can deliver with reasonable speed. Value for money I think today it must be hard to compete with the iBasso line-up.

I do not know why Xin has been out and I will not speculate. I just hope he can fullfill his orders to all the customers who have paid him.

I will say that over the last week or so I have been exchanging emails w/ Dr. Xin on the Reference to improve to what me are two areas it needs improvements on. Treble extension and wider/deeper soundstage.

Dr. Xin has shipped me the latest board to try and see if it corrects he situation. Once I have listen to it I will pass it to at least another head-fier maye to two.

I have not posted much on the Reference lately since too many people are still waiting on their product.

One could wonder if Xin should be offering his amps for sale when he knows he is unwilling to timely meet his orders.

His personna of the eccentric pursuing perfection at all costs and at the expense of filling his orders is surely wearing thin among his customers.

I am so glad I cancelled my order a year ago and , as a matter of principle, I would never buy his product. There are just to many great amps out there to put up with his nonsense.

Anyone remember who made the first commercial portable amps? Sure there was cmoys and DIYs before but who started selling one first? Xin's, the porta cordas or headroom offerings (total head or something)?

I think headroom had some of the 1st.

I had my first Airhead probably about 7 years ago and at the same time I bought my first iem, Etymotics ER4-P. This was after Ken Kessler wrote about them in HiFi News. At the time I didn't know about the existence of either portable amps nor iem's. I was using HD25-1 straight out of a Sony pcdp. I had heard about the X-CAN but that was the only dedicated amp I knew about and now look what 7 years has led to.

I started my Xin journey with the original SuperMacro and have since had every model (though not every revision) he has produced since up to one of last summers prototypes of the Reference and it really pains me to see what has happened (or not happened) over the last 1½ years.

Even for the brief period that I owned my V6.2C Supermini, I could feel the potential that thing had if Xin would get on his ass and fulfill orders properly.
