Best SQ. MP3 Player. - Page 2

I prefer my clip... er, make that my samsung P2, no P3, no M1.

On the other hand, my Cowon i9 sounds amazing.  Wait, I meant my S9.  er, the J3!

Although my Sony S545 is outstanding my X1051 is a tad better.

In summary, the one that sounds the best is the one I'm listening to at the moment. Lossless helps.  Great headphones are mandatory. A quite listening environment ices the cake.

Yeah, I certainly think so, but some people are happy with their fuze or clip.  It could be the frequency response of the X being favorable to my ears.  It could also be that some people have headphones that needs to be driven properly and some DAPs drive it better than others.  I certainly believe that my X drives my TF10 better than my P3, and I've heard that amping X does not make significant difference in sound quality(unless it is a quality amp) by others, which I want to verify once I can get to RSA's store and try out all his goodies.

It's fun to revive old threads. Let's look for something from 2004!

Even if this thread is from 2008, the Clip and Fuze gets mentioned as good sounding DAP:s, so I do not think that it has changed too much...

One the one hand I agree with 4D Thinker. I am a multiple DAP owner and I like the sound they all produce. I use EQ on all of them and the sound signature does become different. Overall, I think that my Kenwood HD20GA7 sounds both nicer and more detailed than my S9, Sansa View, ZVM and Zen Touch. (EDIT: I have not compared it directly to my H120, so I removed that from the list).

But as 4DThinker says, the headphones are very important. Good headphones can make an average DAP sound good as opposed to mediocre...

Now to dig up some more old threads!

Yo, I was wondering why do you not have any of the Sony or Samsung players? After all, you live in Japan, so getting the latest Sony players should be very easy for you isn't it...

Well, I have not yet stumbled across a Sony or Samsung player that made me feel "I need to buy that one!" That day might come, but for now I am just as happy not owning any Sony or Samsung players.

I am here in Japan to study Japanese and as a student my income isn't that big. So I prefer to buy used stuff here. For instance, in ordinary electronics stores the 32GB Sony X1060 is about 35.000 yen which is waaaaaay too expensive for me right now.

I have bought a used Kenwood HD20GA7 which I like. The Kenwood HDD DAP:s (in 2008 Kenwood switched to only making flash based DAP:s) are regarded as quite good sounding DAP:s. I read somewhere here on Head-fi that a guy who had heard the Sony X series still prefered the HDD Kenwood players. Their sound was not too far apart, with the Sony being more bass heavy and the Kenwood a bit more detailed.

But the Kenwoods are difficult to find outside of Japan. The same thing with the Victor/JVC DAP:s which are also considered to sound very good. I cannot afford anything now, so I will wait until later in the year, but I hope to find a JVC DAP as well. I like obscure brands and the Kenwoods and JVC:s are quite unknown outside of Japan.
