Can the SE530's withstand 100% iPod volume?

Will the SE530's drivers get destoryed at 100% iPod volume? Just curious.

Over time yes, but probably not with just a short burst.

on earphone using dynamic driver, loud volume will damage the diaphragms but se530 use balanced armature. i'm not sure loud volume will do any harm or not on BA

Really? Weird...

the se530 will take max volume no sweat, the ipod's amp will begin to distort the sound before the earphones drivers distort, in the end its the distortion from the built in amp that will destroy the drivers.

hence this is why a good amplifier will do headphones justice, because the amplifier does not distort so easy, hence the headphones can be played louder and will survive longer.

its common sence tho that the louder you play the more stress the drivers are dealing with.

in fact i was told just that by a shure representative, he/she said that my eardrums would give way before the drivers do so i should never listen at them volumes in the first place.

Yes, don't worry about damage to the SE530, worry about damage to your hearing...

That's what I was wondering when I saw the topic title, why the heck would you want to play the SE530 at 100% pod volume?

Yeh, id be far more worried about hearing at 100% volume than the IEMs ... after a while it won't matter you've got some of the best universal IEMs out there, you ears will be totally done for.

Crank it up dude.

I'd be more concerned with destroying my ears than the SE 530s. The phones can be replaced.

I would not recommend you to get too loud on your IEMs or else your ear will be destroyed. =)

even volume limited there should be no need to listen at that volume for long periods, especially an ipod which sounds crap at low volume, at the highest volume it will be a sonic mess, just listen at about 80% max as it will be loud yet a clean sound

The SE530s will 110% take 100% volume from a iPod (any generation and model) without hesitation. Distortion from the iPod headphone out however depends on what generation and model of iPod you're using. The current models are remarkably good at max volume from the headphone out and will not clip or distort.

dookiex, are you saying the iPod volume can go all the way to 11?

I'd fax you a schematic but I only have one copy.
