Yes... but... perhaps you should distinguish between "popular" and "best sounding" phones.
From my casual scanning / reading this post, as well as, most headfi threads - the Senn HD580/600/650 series are the most "popular" phones by a fair margin (I group them because the "new" versions of these each sound very similar, or identical).
However, though they sound truly superb with the right set up, they may not be considered as universally as the "best sounding" phones - a status that seems to go to much more expensive phones, many which are no longer in production (e.g. AKG K1000s, Sony R10s, ATH L3000s, various Stax phones, etc.).
