Which Yuin's

1st post folks, though heard alot about this forum.. I have a Samsung YP-K3 and a Ipod Shuffle. I have been advised to get the Yuin PK* earbuds... The * is due to some confusion. The person advising suggested the PK2's as they do not need amplification and should sound fine w/ the Samsung and Ipod. Reading a bit further, it sounds as if the Yuin PK1's may still be ok..

Can the knowledgeable folks here clear this up for me to avoid me making a costly mistake.

Also, folks.. I know that I'm HIGHLY uneducated on this.. let me explain a little further on my need. I ride a motorcycle while listening to my Samsung. I understand the risks (many on the motorcycle forums have brought this to mind). I do enjoy listening to the music sounding crisp and clean, though I also understand that, on a motorcycle, I can't expect miracles. Hoping someone here can lend some insight, though.. Again, Yuin's have been recommended highly.. welcome your input.

PK1 = definitely need amp to shine. no DAP alone can power it to reach its full potential. Many suggest cheap Fiio amp to pair it up with.

PK2 = If u run amped, this definitely a better option. It's less refined PK1 with cutoff lower low freq and higher high of PK1.

PK3 = bass emphasis earbud. warm and fun sounding earphone.

These PK series are enough to cause confusion but do u know OK series exist?

Yeah and according to people here, the OK series is an improvement on the PK series. Also I do not recommend the Yuins for your needs (motorcycling) as they are earbuds thus will not isolate at all.

what's your budget?

Canalphones and even better IEM's will be a better option as they isolate the noise from the motorcycle engine (unless you want to hear the engine etc..)

Thx for all the advice.. don't laugh at my budget, as I know many here are willing to spend bigger bucks than I can afford on their gear. I was hoping to limit my spending to $100.00 on these..
The Yuin PK2 and Westone UM1 both feel into this price range and were recommended. I was swaying towards the Yuin's mainly due to price difference, though will spring fir the Westone's if they are a better choice.

At the moment.. I have a cheap pair of Skull Candy Ink'd Smokin Buds which, though better than some of the very very cheap sets I've had, are not quite what I'm looking for.

I am looking for nice sound and comfort. Discomfort on a long ride is aweful.

Again.. thx for all the advice and the welcome..

Yep.. I saw the OK1 - OK3 also.. as you said, the choices are very overwhelming. Budget takes many of the contenders out of the picture, as $100.00 is straining the 'fun budget'. Comfort is a need... Something causing an irritation on a motorcycle ride can cause one to be distracted. Some companies make a huge profit selling seamless underwear to motorcyclists who hate the feel of a seam on long rides.. I won't go that far, but don't want the earphones to bother me.
The Yuin PK series and the Westones were raved about by motorcyclists on another forum...

sigh... so much to consider!

imho, the decider between Yuin (PK2, PK3, OK3) and Westone UM1 depend on your need.

do u need noise isolation? because UM1 with comply tip can totally block out external noise under helmet. UM1 is among the best fit and comfortable IEM available. the size is significantly smaller than it's dual driver brother, UM2. comfort wise, +1 to Westone.

if no noise isolation required, go for Yuin series.

i never tried UM1 and cant give comment on it since many say its SQ is different from UM2.

In my opinion when riding a scoot, IEMs are needed. Between engine and wind noise, even with a full faced helmet, make music unlistenable with buds. Head- Direct is having a sale on their RE2 for $69.

I just ordered them and have heard good things about the SQ. Plus you'll get the sound isolation you need with them.

I don't agree that the pk3 has a bass emphasis. I can't compare it to other Yuins, but its signature is very Gradoish (my word).

The mids are clear and forward. Bass is punchy.
