If it was negative I wouldn't have written that it was one of the best albums ever created.
So, what did you mean?

it's supposed to sound like that; it's noisy, hazy, ethereal, with lots of feedback, echoey effects, and atmosphere. it's My Bloody Valentine's (as well as countless Shoegaze bands like Ride, Slowdive, etc.) signature sound. Wiki Shoegaze and find out more.

it's kinda funny, it reminds me a long time ago i was listening to Jesus and Mary Chain's Psychocandy in my room and a friend of mine was like... "dude, your speakers are shot!" LOL.
Total bliss out man.........

JAMC were the pre-cursors to shoegaze with a heavy wall of distortion and feedback, then shoegaze evolved using a shimmering undulating curtain of noise upon which vocals could could emerge.

I think many people over rate MBV becuase they are not aware of similar bands from same period, they are very good but there are other equally good bands from shoegaze period.

As far as sound quality......just take off your audiophile hat and put on your listen to the music hat and enjoy, it is supposed to sound that way

What shoegaze band in your opinion is better than MBV?
Yup, guitar distortion and feedbacks. I still remember years back the first time I listened to Loveless, I actually need to clean the laser head in my stereo...
For me "Loveless" is a bit overrated too. I prefer Lush and Pale Saints better.

I don't know about in his opinion, but...

In my opinion I'd take Slowdive over MBV any day. Comparing best works, I definitely prefer Souvlaki over Loveless, and looking at debuts, I give Just For A Day the edge over Isn't Anything.

And I never could get into Ride.

I just picked up slowdive's Souvlaki, I liked the sound of the samples on amazon- but chose to get the CD.

RIDE - Nowhere
SLOWDIVE - Just for a Day (especially essential 2CD version)
CURVE - Pubic Fruit & Doppelganger
CATHERINE WHEEL - Ferment & Chrome
SWERVEDRIVER - Raise

I am not trying to convince you that you will like these better, but IMO these are at least equal or better than MBV Loveless in creativity and influence during shoegaze movement.......for various reasons MBV have a more cult following today that inflates the importance of thier actual body of work

You probably think I was trying to flame you, but that's definitely not the case. I actually love shoegaze, but my knowledge of it is pretty limited to MBV, Blonde Redhead (not that they are entirely shoegaze), Asobi Seksu, Deerhunter (ok, part-time shoegaze), Alcest, A Sunny Day in Glasgow, and probably a few others. I've heard of three out of the 5 bands you mentioned, but never listened to any of them. I look forward to it, and will report back whether I think any of the albums top MBV's work.

I think this may be it, you'll pay for it though...
Amazon.com: Just for a Day: Slowdive: Music

Just curious. Anyone think the song "Morningrise" off Just for a Day inspired the Opeth album?

Yes that is it.............don't hesitate for a second getting the 2CD version, contains very rare EPs and B sides, absolutely essential shoegaze!

If you owned only one shoegaze CD this is it.............

The follow-up Souvlaki is excellent, but perhaps too polished sounding already for fans of MBV Loveless.
later albums become even more progressive less shoegaze

Listened to a bunch of songs on last.fm - No surprise here, but out of these, my first impression is that Swervedriver is the most like MBV. And the one I prefer.

Seeing as they were both formed in 1984 and labelmates, hard to say who influenced who more.

Edit: Actually, I also really like Ride's Going Blank Again. I'll probably pick up that and Raise.

Edit #2: Nowhere is also great. Also, found that Raise is coming out Oct. 21 digitally re-mastered. I'm pre-ordering it now!

I would agree that Slowdive - Just for a Day is an essential shoegazer album. In fact, you should just buy all the albums Dark Angel listed...the very best of the genre.
