New ALO SXC Senn Cable

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the new ALO SXC Senn Cable. It looks promising, and is reasonably priced, considering the price of a Equinox, and Zu cables.

ALO Audio

If you have any experience with this cable, please chime in and share your experience.

$385 isn't that great in my book. The Zu Mobius starts at $340 and the Equinox cables prices vary but start well below $385. If you're in the market for a senn replacement cable, I personally like the Apuresound v3 cable, its reasonably priced and very customizable. ALO stuff has always just seemed a bit overpriced for my taste.

Whoops. I saw $400+ for the Equinox, but that is for a 20 foot cable!

I am considering the Zu, Equinox and ALO SXC cables. The differences in price aren't off the wall. I mean if one was $150, and the other $385, I can see opting for the former, but since they are all $300+, to me, what's another $50-$75, IF it is worth it. But it looks like not many people have either gotten the chance to try Ken's new cable, or they are turned off by it's high price. I can understand that.. however I am hoping a few people here have had a chance to at least hear this cable.

Don't you think there's something wrong if the cable costs more than Sennheiser's current top of the line headphones?

You know, you have a point. However, there is lots of interesting results from users using aftermarket cables on the Senn's, and experiencing great results from them. It doesn't make sense to me either, to have a amp that costs 3-4x as much as a pair of headphones either.. but for some reason the Senn's seem to scale extraordinary well, almost unlike any other 'phone.

It does make sense to me. Source and amp are very important.

In fact, I sold my Senn cable to fund for a new amp which is 3x as much as the HD650.

I totally understand. Despite the "low" price of the Senn's, they seem to have unlimited potential, giving their great ability to scale the components used. Which is why a few people use a $20,000 SDS amp on a pair of $350 headphones..

It still doesn't make logical sense, but hey, as long as it sounds good, why does it have to make sense!? Shoot, I wouldn't dare share how much I've spent on a pair of headphones, let alone the total system cost.

don't worry, nothing on head-fi makes sense to the average person! i'd say go for it if you can afford it. in the end, that's the only thing that matters.

How can you be ripped off if you're satisfied with what you get for the price you paid?

What you're saying is, you think it's a rip off - does your opinion hold more weight than anyone elses? I wouldn't be surprised if you're only looking at ALOs products as just parts and forgetting that you're really paying for Ken's labour, including all the time he would have spent sourcing wire perfect for his needs, testing, shipping, dealing with problems etc etc. Indeed, as was already stated in a reply to you, if the purchaser is happy, then that's all that matters.

I only wish I had a good balanced amp to justify a balanced version of this cable to test. If the Aussie dollar hadn't dropped recently, I'd consider buying one to compare with the Zu.

My setup has been built around HD650 so amp and cables have costed more than the headphones. It's only a natural extention of getting more out of HD650.

I don't think the cost is justifiable. I built my own for a whole lot cheaper

I didn't really ask if the cost is justifiable. Obviously I can afford this cable, and I was simply inquiring about the performance.
