At 277mb the 2.2.1 firmware update should cure cancer. My cable was smoking after the download.

I would be interested in hearing an update with this issue.

I did a bit of googling and some people are still reporting that problem after the update.

My 120gb ipod suffers from this lossless problem and basically there will not be a fix so either I move to another brand or hope the touch doesn't have this problem anymore.
