The best Cowon D2 software setup + disspelling the 'disadvantages' of the D2

Well, ok, I've in my mind have found the best software setup SQ wise that improves the D2 signifcantly and in fact, removes alot of the 'myths' in my opinion of the D2 that people state as disadvantages or bad points about the D2.

I believe the D2 is supposed and designed to be tweaked and the more I think about it, the more I believe the software programmers at Cowon had this in mind.

The sound setup I've found to be the best:

Keep in mind that IMO:

1) The D2 is supposed to be EQ'ed and sounds significantly better

2) The "low amount of soundstage" people talk about that comes with the D2 is fixed with this setup

3) I've tried this with alot of genres and have found this setup to be best with all of them therefore this setup suits all genres despite it's name (you'll see later on)

4) The Cowon D2 is a tweaker's dream and imo is not intended to be used with all features off e.g. Flat EQ, everything zero etc..

Anyway here is the setup I have settled on:

The 'ROC' EQ in Jeteffect
(+9@80 Hz, +6@500 Hz, flat@1.1 kHz, +6@4.1kHz, +12@11.7 kHz)
- Despite being named the 'rock' EQ, this suits all genres.
I've tweaked around with a lot of own User EQ setups yet still went back to this one.

BBE @ 1 -gives it a warmer sound

3DS (3D Surround) @ 2
- This solves the soundstage problem and signifcantly improves the detail in the music + lessens sibilence. +1 doesn't make too much of difference, +3 sounds too fake so @ 2 it's good

MPE ON - Gives it a warmer sound also.

Criticise if you wish but this setup to me solves a lot of the Cowon D2's supposed 'problems' but of course doesn't solve all of them e.g. the bad UI but even that can be solved via modding it with whatever pictures you want.
I stil believe however that the Cowon D2 is meant to be tweaked and sounds signifcantly better with it tweaked.

This is true on so many levels...I use the jazz preset as well, but also go off and tinker with it quite a bit. Haven't landed on anything worth sharing, but I think the point is not that one preset is the one to go with, but that you need to tinker with this player to make it sound how you want it to.

Even running through an iBasso Boa into MS2i, it has a lot more life with a little effect on.

And you can really knock yourself out trying to get playlists working (especially linux tweakers) and creating maps viewable in the flash apps, formatting .txt docs to be readable...etc. Even figuring out database corruption issues due to bad file tagging is something you can spend hours on.

For user ease it is for sure the polar opposite of iPod. For sound quality, I am betting that effective tweaking of the existing firmware will prove better than implementation of rockbox. Uh, except for gapless playback...

Hi, guy. Thanks to share your experience. But sorry, I don't quite agree with you. Cause I think the sound problem with D2 is that midrange is too thin and voice is far away. And I can't see any improvement with your suggestion.
Looking forward to discuss with you, thanks!
