Grado SR225 vs. Sleek Audio SA6

I listen to a lot of rock, some folk here and there, a little bit of electronica, and a few songs of random genres. Some of my music is complex and distorted and sounds horrible without the right headphones (an example of this is Dinosaur Jr.). My sources will be a 4gb Sansa Clip and an 8gb iRiver Clix 2. Help me make a $200 investment.

Portable source -> option most geared towards portability(aka no need for an amp)

I don't get it. I'm asking about headphones. I'm not planning on using an amp.

I have 225s and I listen to Dinosaur jr. They sound fantastic on these phones, one of the best rock cans made, imo.

I would say SR225, but judging by your source, you'd be better off purchasing the SA6, even though IMO they sound rather sub-par.

Why would SA6 be the better choice with my source? Not enough power to drive the SR225?

No, both would be driven about the same, but I am assuming that you're going to be mostly using this for portability, judging by your source(s)?

But do keep in mind that the SR225 blooms amazingly well given a proper source and amp.

EDIT: Oh, and you'll need a 1/8-to-1/4 adapter if you're following through on the SR225 idea.

I'll still be using some cheaper IEMs for portability. Whatever I buy will be for at-home listening. I'm aware of the need for an adapter, and I don't plan on buying or using an amp (they still sound great without it, right?).

IMO, its almost impossible to beat the SQ of full size cans with IEMs

Definitely go for the SR225 then.

sr 225's will work fine from your portable, though an amp would help them in all aspects.

Where will you be using these phones? If it's at home you should go for the Grados, but if you are planning on carrying them around you should go for the Sleeks.

Unamped, is the SR225 still significantly better sounding than the SA6? And furthermore, do they still sound good enough to justify the $200 price tag when unamped? I really don't want an amp...
