JVC harx700 - a poor mans ath-a900!! - Page 4

Just how many other gems does JVC have hidden? Do they know what they have and how much money they could have gotten from the head-fi crowd?

They have the more up-front forward type of sound. On a very quick A/B test between the two, I think the average person would pick the RX900.

Haha, cool. How is the comfort? I'm looking for a pair of cheap cans to give as a gift. Do you know how these would compare to the HD201's?

Thanks.

Ah, not a problem, thanks for your help. For $11, there's not much to lose. Looks like I'll be adding a pair to my next order.

Take it easy.

How is the bass on the RX900? Where does it bottom out; how visceral is it?

So far we've determined that the RX700 stops around 40Hz, while the A900 goes to about 30Hz, yet the RX700 has more visceral bass. However, that may be comparing golden deliciouses to jonagolds, in the apples-to-apples game. Does this mean that the RX900 will be more like the A900, thus going down to 30Hz but having less impact? Does this mean that the ATH A700 stops around 40Hz like the RX700 but has more impact than the A900?

Hi, thanks for the review! If you don't mind, are there any other similarly priced headphones that you've used that you can compare these to? I'm particularly interested in how these fare against the much lauded PortaPro/KSC75 and PX100 .

i have had the ksc75. the jvc are much better. of course they are 10 times the size also. with the jvc you get a 'big' sound-major bass and highs. with the koss -its a small little soundstage. but the koss are tiny earclips and sound fantastic for their size and price -tight bass and sparkly highs

Have you tried them amped? The improvement in overall SQ was very noticeable with both a Fiio and a Kenwood integrated.

I've not; I'm trying to decide if I should get the 700, or spring the extra $23 for a 900. I'd be coming from RP-21s (the headbands keep breaking on me), which with the Turtle Beach micro USB thinger that I use on my laptop will get down to 30Hz, as told by this cheapie flash test: Equal loudness contours and audiometry - Test your own hearing

It's about 15 decibels weaker at 30 than at 40, but it's there, and it's palpable. Some are saying that the HARX700 bottoms out at 40, and I'm curious whether the same is true for the HARX900.

Still wondering what I was wondering before: How low does the HARX900 go, and would you describe any of its bass as being visceral?

Edit: Heck, $23 difference won't hurt none, in that grand scheme of things. Just ordered the HA-RX900, and will report back on it when I get it.

The RP-21 bass is stronger but not as good in the midrange or highs as the 700. I will get the 900 and do an A/B.

Amped?
Quick post before bed. I ordered these last Friday from Amazon. I'm hoping to get them soon as a nice, full-size headphone to use for long sessions and gaming. I would like to use them around the house too, sorry, I haven't read the whole thread, but how do the 700's do without an amp? I plan on getting an e5 when it comes out.

Thanks.
