iEIDOS, another iPod digital transport from Goldmund

Thread Starter
Goldmund will launch iEIDOS iPod digital transport, which is same functionality of WADIA iTransport. There is also iEIDOS player version that has an Alize DAC inside.
This is a picture of iEIDOS transport. I found this marvelous in the Tokyo audio show. click pictures to enlarge.

On the back side, from the left to the right, iEIDOS has one RCA SPDIF output and one AES/BEU XLR output, in add they also installed WordSync port (BNC).
Player version would be bigger and comes with a pair of RCA analogue out.

iEIDOS transport will be launched on December to the Japanese market.
The price of the iEIDOS transport is 98000 JPY. Player version will be 198000 JPY.

I hope I'm doing the conversion wrong, but does that cost almost 1000 USD?

LOL, just to get S/PDIF from an iPod. Talk about a joke. For that I can get a damn computer with a great soundcard or a fairly high-end CD player.

~ $930 I make it, $930 to basically get around the design limitations of a $350 DAP, from the company mind that rebox a $200 Pioneer DVD player into a $12,000 CD player.

Given that the Wadia ithingy can do the exact same function for $350, still rather a lot of money for a bodge(1) , but never mind , I would be interested to know where is the extra $580 of value is coming from ?

1. It reminds me of when my parents used to live down in the West Country. I woud get on the train in London , I would see my parents' house from the train as it sped on past the closed down local railway station (thank you so much Dr Beeching) I would get off the train 12 miles later and wait two hours for a bus to take me back to where I should have been in the first place ......grrrrrrr

Thats easy, its costs them exactly $72.50 each to put the letters,
G
O
L
D
M
U
N
and D

on the unit.

with the exception of their tone arms, back in the day, their stuff has always been grossly overpriced. And not at all state of the art in sound either.

Wow, I was clicking on the link expecting something cheaper than the Wadia iTransport. Guess I'm wrong.

Not sure it justifies the price, but wordsync port opens up possibilities to reduce device jitter with an external master clock.
