The $200 K Works Empowered PC compared to the Nite, Elrod - Page 3

Did anyone else think this was a comparison between the Nites and a $200,000 cable based off the topic?

When I saw $200 K - my jaw dropped

Sadly, that's what I thought at first. I thought AC1 hit the lottery when I first read this thread. But after reading his post I figured it out. It was fun while it lasted.

Briefly put, the Empower is not as fast nor as extended as the Mother. There is a distinct copper flavor to the midrange, the telltale warm bloom that at once is pleasant and yet obscures details. Transient response suffers as a result of this. The Mother cruises through leading and trailing edges much more effortlessly and cleanly, and it also renders a blacker background. Treble extension and decay is slightly softer in the Empower, and on a whole the soundstage presentation is more laid back, giving things a slightly farther away feel, but also dulling the focus. Finally, the bass is a tad looser than the Mother's, which sounds a bit more solid. The Empower has made for a rather forgiving PC overall, at least compared to the Mother.
This is somewhat what I was expecting from AC's description that Empowered would fall between Zu Mother and VD Nite as far as treble energy........Zu Mother have greatest treble energy.

I doubt if anyone with thier sanity intact would consider getting a 200K ($200,000) power cord, he he.

But to get one sent to you to do a comparison is everyone's dreams.

Any updates?

Mini update for Empowered:

I have two 6ft cords now, one goes from wall outlet to Audio Magic digital stealth conditioner, and another from digital stealth to Bel Canto Dac 2. I am concentrating on digital gear because of built in filtering of Empowered should work well here.

Also I was using a VD Nite from stealth to BC Dac 2 and it was a pain having that monster cord on small Dac. Like AC1 I am very impressed with Empowered and for the Dac it actually beat out the VD Nite.......I am not saying overall it is better than VD Nite(yet) but on certain gear like BC Dac 2 it is better.

I think the VD Nite works better on full size gear, but will learn more as I experiment further with Empowered. I am still using VD Nite to transport but when another Empowered arrives I will try it there and see how it fares.

Bottom line so far it that Empowered AC cord & Bogdan BSSR ICs on my Bel Canto Dac 2 have replaced VD Nite & AZ Silver Reference at 1/5 the price retail!

The performance of Empowered has impressed me enough to sell a couple VD References Cryo which has paid for the Empowereds

More details in a couple days.

AC1, DarkAngel and others, thanks for posting your impressions. My system is finally almost at the point where tweaks will be the only things left to do (for awhile at least ). At that time I'll look again at all my cables. This info may come in very handy.

At the moment I'm all-Nite through an Audio Magic Stealth, but who knows--maybe there's room for improvement.

DA,

Cool, glad you are enjoying the cord. Should be interesting to hear how all your different gear reacts to the Empowered.

I am also in the middle of more improvements. I am having the Mensa DIO plused along with getting Nitro cable for the PS. After that is finished, it is also going off to Igor so he can improve the DIO PS. Can't wait to see what he can do with it. The other is that I finally got a digital stealth to seperate the analog and digital gear.

Cal, tweaking is as challenging to find what you want as components are, in a way. Especially isolation, where even in a headphone system it can make some big improvements. There are some crazy things, I've experienced that can alter the performance of the system.

Today I have the Empowered connected to the 47 Labs Shigaraki DAC power supply. Like others, my system too is at a more or less final configuration, meaning the next major changes (barring tweaks) will be absolutely fundamental.

I'm already sizing up some options for isolation. Here's a link to what I'm most interested in right now.

The digital version of STEALTH conditioner is almost mandatory for CDP users. When I first hooked up standard STEALTH conditioner with all gear (including CDP/Dac) it was pretty good but not blowing me away..........I wondered what all the raves were about
especially at the high price (mine was used cryo unit)

Then I read the review at 6 Moons & Soundstage about digital stealth and got one used to use with standard Stealth............OMG what a revalation, big difference. Soundstage really opened up and expanded, as well as better detail retreival. This is what I was looking for!

(bastards keep inventing ways to empty our wallets, he he)

I think VERT was correct in his assessment that the Zu Mother does have more treble energy, but for my digital gear the Empowered was overall preferred and just more musical.

Like to hear your impressions when you get a feel for them.
(BTW, I think you would really love the Bogdan BSSR IC if you have some spare cash)

Wow, did not know that the digital was that big of a difference. Now there's anticipation for it to arrive.

Ya, know what you mean... And of course getting another conditioner also means that there will be another power cord as well.

I'll post some impressions by the end of the week. The Empowered in in a speaker system, btw, with The Zu Mother connected to the amp.

Hmmm, I am in the market for a line conditioner and I have been thinking seriously about the the PS Audio P300 and the Audio Magic Mini Stealth.

I will only be plugging my Melos and my Shanling into it so the Mini is all I need. If the Digital is THAT good, should I go for the digital instead of hte Mini Stealth? Would this adversely affect my Melos? Also, the digital only has 2 level of surge protection while the mini stealth has 7...
