Don't believe everything you see on TV.

Since I live in the midwest, if I satrted a rap radio station the call letters would be KRAP. How appropriate!

I don't buy into that "the old-school stuff is OK" myth. All rap sucks.

Blackalicious feat. Gil Scott-Heron
YouTube - blackalicious - First in Flight Feat. Gil Sco - Blazing Arro

[CHORUS:]
First in flight [repeated 4X]

[Gil Scott-Heron:]
(Cause all we got is rhythm and timin'
We go beyond the edge of the sky)

FREE! Like a bird out in the wind in the night
Like a 747 to LA that's in flight
FREE! Like a garden flourishing in the wind
Like a student bout to do it when he's graduatin
FREE! From any of the energy perception
Can never be defined create the definition within
FREE! Just lovin life itself and never pretend to be
Anything other than the man I was meant to be
Travel through time and get a glimpse of the centuries
To come a better day is promised remember
FREE! Like my nephew in a few months about to be out the penitentiary
Meditation [repeated 9X]

[Chorus]

UH! I never hesitate about a reluctant mind
Just put the peddle to the metal see what ya find
You back there slouchin over won't you pick up your spine?
Let's make it really really happen live up this time
Cause you can choose to say "Good morning God" or "Good God, morning"
With black clouds storming
I walk without umbrellas into these woods
Don't need em cause the mighty trees will shelter me good
I'm eating berries from the bushes of the heavenly good
From the ?stakes/steaks? the power came to us whenever we stood
Reverberatin out we're reachin each and every hood
Whenver we could the spiritual anatomy fool
But never take the credit for it B cause that'd be rude
It's just the way in life we searchin for that had to be new
You gotta work it though cause everyday ain't Saturday fool
Evolve into a better life and be happy with you and me

[Chorus]

[Gil Scott-Heron]
The first to fly
The first to strive
The first to fight to stay alive
The first to win
The first to strike
The first to live
The first in flight

RISE! Like the sun up at the crack of the dawn
Like a wakin child in the morning stretchin and yawnin
RISE! Like an infant being held in the light
Like the smoke from an incense when it's ignited
RISE! If you're sleepin won't you open your eyes again
The greatest high be that natural high within
No need to force the progression just ride the wind
You'll know the answer to the where and why and when
If you keep workin for your search you will find the end
Though at the end you find it only begins again
See at the end you'll see it only begins again
And everything you learn you're only rememberin
Cause you're

[Chorus (repeat 4X)]

It's me
Let your mind and your soul be free
Work to shine meet your goal believe
Spread that kind of L-O-V-E
Take some time off the lonely

[Gil Scott-Heron: repeat to end]
Cause all we got is rhythm and timin'
We go beyond the edge of the sky

Hello hello hello hello...

Entrances exits vestibules and alleys
Winding roads that test the firm nerve
fortune or fatal behind the blind curve
The engine oil purr lights flash to a blur
speed work through the earth make your motor go scurrr
tonight at noon watch a bad moon rising
identities in crisis and conflict diamonds
blindin staring at lights till they cryin
bone gristle popping from continuous grindin
grapes of wrath in a shapely glass
ingredients influential on your ways and acts
zero tolerance to raise the tax
it don't matter how your gates is latched

They sell drugs in the hood but the man he move the medicine
He'll prescribe you Augmen for everything

Atmosphere feat. Tom Waits (beatboxing) - The Waitress
YouTube - Atmosphere - The waitress

A city full of people and my favorite is that waitress
And she treats me like some type of common vagrant
I see her everyday, but there's nothing to say
Unless I decide to step inside of that cafe
I only get to sit if I buy something to eat
Otherwise it's best to keep my feet moving down that street
And god damn she's a hard bitch
Talks at me like I'm the bad dog that got into the garbage
Yeah I know that the toilet is for customers
You ain't got to tangle up the strings to make this puppet work
It doesn't have to be a game of patty cake
But it ain't like you don't know I sleep in that alleyway
And by the way, I can see it in your eyes
You're angry with your life, not a stranger to the fight
I bet you hate every man that you date
And you're probably addicted to all types of escape
You take it out on me that you're all alone
When you know you got your own closet full of hollow bones
Watch the tone when you speak to old folks
I'm grown, just trying to get out of this Minnesota cold

Look lady, I'm homeless, I'm crazy
I'm so hopeless I'm suicidal daily
If you and I can't coexist, let's fake it
'Cause I ain't got the energy it takes for this relationship

I'm waiting for a city bus to flatten me
And transport me to the ever after happily
Maybe reincarnated with luck
Come back to Earth as a cockroach in your tip cup
She said she's had it up to here
She's gonna call authorities if I don't disappear
I love her threats, it rejuvenates my breath
I give her stress for the reaction that it gets
I got a pocket full of clean, handled money
On a cup of bad coffee and a stale honey bun
In front of everyone she calls me bum
But she notices my absence on them afternoons I don't come
So here I am, thorn in her hip
Holding down the corner table all morning with some corn chips
Ignoring the insults and evil eyes
I feed off of 'em, I wonder when she'll realize
That she's the only reason I visit
The only woman in my world that acknowledges my existence
And if my ship ever comes, I'll miss it
Because I'm getting old and I ain't got much left to give it
So there it is and I have to live with it
I had the chance to make a difference, but I didn't
In the cafe bathroom drinking free tap water
Thinking, damn, I should have been a better father to my daughter

Aesop Rock - "Daylight"
YouTube - Aesop Rock - Daylight

Yo...put one up shackle me, not clean logic procreation
I did not invent the wheel I was the crooked spoke adjacent
While the triple sixers lassos keep angels roped in the basement
I walk the block with a halo and a stick poking your patience
Ya'll catch a 30 second flash visual
Dirty cooperative Neptune blue head hurt splits
Ridiculous fathom the splicing of first generation
**** up or trickle down anti hero smack (Cracking!)
I paste the game to zero all completion green (Splash!)
Took an early retirement pick a dream
American nightmare hogging the screen
I'll hold the door open so you can stumble in
and you would stop following me around the jungle gym
Now it's an honor and I spell it with the 'H' I stole from heritage
Marry crutch stolen wretched refuge refuse my teaming resonance
I promise temperance storm breed with a leaning conscious
In a credence relax responsive with my sports outsource the wattage
And I'm sleeping now (Wow!) And the settlers laugh
You won't be laughing when your covered wagons crash
You won't be laughing when the buses drag your brother's flags into rags
You won't be laughing when your front lawn is spangled with epitaphs
You won't be laughing
And I hang my boots to rest when I'm impressed
So I triple knot them then I forgot them
This origami dream is beautiful
but man those wings will never leave the ground
Without a feather and a lottery ticket, now settle down

All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day,
put the pieces back together my way.
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day,
put the pieces back together my way.
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day,
put the pieces back together my way.
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day,
put the pieces back together my way.

Slacker bounded imitated tabloid headlined with the post
Shimmy cross the centerfold, and a dead time in ghosts
Giving crumbs for the better souls with seven deadly sins
To hear the plane to crystal conscious
To results a low life counting on one hand what he's accomplished
Ok, lift me to activism chain activate street sweep
Plug in deteriorating zenith pen dragging
I hack swords wars for the morbid spreading of mad men
Now he's got soul
Sitting there licking log cabin in Charlie Chaplin waddle
I could zig zag and zig 'em again for the bad dreams
Sparking my brick wall windows another thicket storm
And if one night in Gotham without the wretched
Houston we have a problem
Dispatch a task of infested patch of city goblins
Who split how many freaks with box cuts of a high road bellow
Heads ripped! Watch red bricks turn yellow
Sort of similar to most backbones at camp Icarus
Raw feelings start congregating at pamper for bickering
Life's not a bitch life is a beautiful woman
Your only call her a bitch because she won't let you get that *****
Maybe she didn't feel y'all shared any similar interests
Or maybe you're just an ******* who couldn't sweet talk the princess
Kiss the speaker wire or either pass it for some pagan thresh hold
Stomach full of halo kibbles
Wings span cast black of **** visuals hear the duck hunt ticker tape
Vision and pick apart the pixels
I got a friend of polar nature and it's all peace
When I seek similar stars but can't sit at the same feast
Metal Captain!
This cat is asking if I've seen his little lost passion
I told him: "Yeah, but only when I pedaled past him"

All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day,
put the pieces back together my way.
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day,
put the pieces back together my way.
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day,
put the pieces back together my way.
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day,
put the pieces back together my way.

Lupe Fiasco feat. Mathew Santos - "Streets On Fire"
YouTube - Lupe Fiasco- Streets on Fire

(Matthew Santos)
The stars are aligned and their path is colliding
The plan is arriving and she’s out there smiling
The fear is upon us, the skies tried to warn us
Your bedrooms are gone and no children to mourn us
It's driving me crazy, this whore is my lady
The bombs are our babies and God is amazing
The tick of the time of the slip of the rhyme
Of the pimp and the rise of your fall is where you'll find her
Hey, hey...

Death is on the tip of (her) tongue
And dangers at the tip of (her) fingers
Streets are on fire tonight
2x

(Lupe)
Disease, the virus is spreading in all directions
No safe zone, no cure, and no protection
No symptoms define the signs of an infection
No vaccines, remedies, and no corrections
Quarantine the dreams and seal off all connections
Don’t let 'em in, not a friend, not a reflection
Everybody’s got it and wants you to have it next and
Don’t accept them if you want to stay as an exception
No pill can heal the ill of this
Sickness some are still in doubt of it's existence
Some call it forgiveness and some call it the vengeance
Some say its an exit and some say its an entrance
The poor say the rich have the cure
The rich say the poor are the source
Revolutionaries say its psychological war invented by the press
Just to have something to report
Some say the first case came from a maternity ward
Some say a morgue, some say the skies
Some say the floors, whores say the nuns,
Nuns say the whores, and everybody is sure

The scientists say it only affects the mind
The little boy said it only affects the girls
The preacher man said its gonna kill off the soul
A bum said its gonna kill the whole wide world

Death is on the tip of (her) tongue
And dangers at the tip of (her) fingers
Streets are on fire tonight
2x

Believe, so say the neon signs
By the loud speakers repeating that everything is fine
A subtle solace to demolish a troubled conscience
Of a populace with no knowledge and every freedom denied
Every dream is designed then broadcasted from the masses
To the masses from the antennas on top of the shrines
Respond or receive and planted, during the panic and shorted,
It reports back everything in your mind
Everything is lyin’, everything is dyin’
Everything is a rule, everything is a crime
Everything was here then everything rewind
The new weather burns the feathers off everything flying

(And she likes it
And she loves it)

The sadness, the madness, the bad ****, the lavish
The fastness, the clashes, the ashes to ashes, everything intertwined
My femme fatale, my darling fraudulent angel
Once caught her changing the batteries in her halo
Receipt for her wings and everything that she paid for
And the address to the factory where they made those

The scientists say she's all inside my mind
The little boy said what happened to all the girls
The preacher man said she's gonna kill off her soul
The dope boy said it the whole wide world

Death is on the tip of (her) tongue
And dangers at the tip of (her) fingers
Streets are on fire tonight
2x

I posted these examples so we could perhaps actually discuss the music, rather than just whatever stereotypes people want to spew about it.

Go ahead. If we can have a Diana Krall haters club then we can most certainly have a rap haters club without some of you getting your panties in a twist.
Was posting the youtube of Edan a joke? That was terrible.

The Atmosphere and Lupe Fiasco lyrics are pretty good. The others are garbage.

There are plenty of rock hater clubs, btw, and there are just as many generalities about rock from the rap crowd. Most rock fans don't defend the genre like a hungry pitbull tearing someone's leg off like the rap supporters do. Know why? We like rock, and don't care if someone else doesn't like it. Generally speaking of course, as there are plenty of dudes willing to put their army boot in your nose if you say "Pantera sucks".

All day at work the entire office makes fun of what I listen to while they put some awful r&b/rap station. Doesn't bother me in the least, but it's real easy to bait them into an argument if I pass by and comment about whatever garbage "song" is currently being played.

Love Beauty and the Beat. Primitive Plus is also a good album.
