The 640P has a better MM stage than the 540P. Other units to look at are the Bugle, DB systems DB-8, Musical Fidelity V-LPS, and Vincent PHO-111. Many V-LPS owners claim good results by upgrading the power supply and I personally recommend running the Hagerman Bugle with 2 AA 15 volt battery packs over the stock 9 volt batteries.

If I go with the Azur 640p I could almost add the Denon DL110

I have a 640P & a Denon DL-103. I'm watching this thread because I want to get rid of the 640P. Mine turned out to be noisy (power supply). CA replaced it but the replacement was noisy to. So it will have to go.  Battery power looks to be a good option.
