Help me choose a Stereo Receiver

Hey guys,

First of all, let me start by stating that i am pretty clueless when it comes to choosing a new receiver.

I want a new stereo receiver and these are the two i am really considering.

Yamaha Canada Music | Home Audio/Video

or

Denon Canada | DRA-37

I can get them for around the same price (with the yamaha being $20 more). They will be used to drive a pair of Paradigm V6 Atoms. Sources will either be my emu0202 or a sony CD player

What is the main difference, aside from the brand? Anybody have any experiences with them? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Instead of buying new, look in your local thrift stores or Goodwill for a vintage receiver. They can be had very cheap in very nice shape, plus the headphone out is miles above most new receivers. Youd have to spend alot of money to come close to a vintage Marantz, Sansui, Sherwood, Fisher, or Pioneer. Chances are you could score something nice for under $40. I paid $15 for my Kenwood KR9400...which in nice shape goes for over $300.

If you do not need AM/FM and you are only dealing with 2 speakers, I would get an integrated amp from Audiogon. Something from Rotel, NAD, Marantz, Denon and some others I can't think of now.

Adcom and Rotel are some other good ones to look into. Have you considered a T-amp? There are lots of good ones out there. Trends Audio TA-10.1, Pop Pulse, Kingrex, and Little Dot come to mind.

I thought about getting something used on Audiogon, ebay, or even craigslist. And i will definitely look more into that.

The reason I am considering these two, is because i can get them for a "pretty decent" price here at futureshop (dont know if you Americans have heard of this place).

I have read a lot about how older receivers' headphone-out is a lot more capable. Right now, I am using this Kenwood A-5G Stereo Integrated Amp. I have absolutely no clue how old or how capable this thing is. While it is driving my headphones and my atoms pretty decently, i just feel that it could be 'better"
