Yes, I completely agree. But my point still stands: why did Head-Fi (the mods, particularly) unanimously bitch and complain about the Gilmore V2 Max when the Meta Max is quite all right? Because the Meta Max "isn't competing"? I don't think so. The V2 Max costs $850, or so; the Max, with stepped attenuator and all, costs about a grand more. Neither of these amps are competitors with the Headroom Max.

I'd either like those who complained about the Gilmore amp to rescind their comments or to ask the same of HeadSave.

... And honestly, folks, I'm curious to hear honest discussion about this. I'm not being a troll. I think this warrants valid discussion.

I'm especially curious about those who were so vocally opposed to the name "V2 Max": do you think "HeadSave Meta Max" is as unethical as "V2 Max" is/was? Why or why not?

The issue was not just because the amps were "in competition" with each other. If you'll recall, there was controversy over the portable Gilmore called the Traveler as well even if it wasn't competing with the HeadRoom bag of the same name. It's a "niche" market as jude often repeated.

Somehow though, I doubt there wouldn't have been any controversy if it had been named the GilmoreMax. Anyone care to point out the real difference?

I am going to chime in here and explain this name misunderstanding.
Folks on this forum have long used the term "maxed out Meta", somewhat loosely, I might add. I consider the Headsave MetaMax to be my version of a maxed out Meta, just a little easier to say. I never even thought of the connection to HeadRoom and their Max.
If this name causes concern to the folks at HeadRoom or to administrators here on this sight, then I will change the name.

I for one think the name MetaMax makes a lot of sense even for someone with as little knowledge of the Meta42 as me, maxed out Meta42 = MetaMax. As for the earlier discussions about the word Max, I personally can't understand what the problem is. It's not like you can have all rights to the word Max, no matter how small a market you're aiming at.

Heh, the name reminded me of Betamax before I even thought of the Headroom Max...

Tigger, I fully understand (and agree with) your use of the name "Meta Max."

What I don't understand is why the HeadAmp Gilmore V2 Max caused such an outrage.

I'd either like for those (especially the moderators) who had such a fit over the V2 Max to come out and say they're specifically biased against HeadAmp, and as such singled out the V2 Max in an effort to draw negative publicity, or I'd like them to extend their previous sentiments (anything named "Max" is drawing market share away from HeadRoom, etc.) to you, tigger. (Not at all out of any ill will - I have no problem with you or your products. I do have a problem with double standards, though.)

That's all. So, folks, what are your thoughts?

Go read the thread. Also, I already explained the problem to a great extent in my last post in this thread.

Hint: Sonically, the V2-SA is/was supposed to compete with the Headroom Max at a much lower price.

I never participated in the previous discussion, but I'll say that I think it's lame for a non-HeadRoom amp maker to use "Max" or "Maxed Out" in the name of their amps. Both are clearly playing off the success of HeadRoom's amp names, IMO.

There are plenty of things you could name your amp that don't have "Max" or "Maxed Out" in them. Show a little bit of creativity...
