AD700 + Audioengine A2 + DAC/AMP?!? What to do...

Hey people!

After reading and pondering for a very very long time....I finally pulled the trigger on the Audioengine A2's.

Now...

Prior to buying the A2's...I was using the Auzentech Prelude + AD700 for my music/gaming experience. I also got a MBP recently, and I'll probably end up using the MBP a lot more often than the desktop....

Being a complete novice in the field of audiophile world I seek your advice on many things....

1. If I'm going to use the Auzen. Prelude, do I need to get DAC/AMP for AD700 and the Audioengine A2's

2. For the MBP usage, I'm looking to use the AD700 about 90% of the time...would I need a DAC/AMP for the AD700 to experience audiophile-grade music?

3. I understand that the A2's have the input of either RCA (?) or the 3.5mm.
If I use the 3.5mm from the Prelude to the A2, would that still carry good(?) audio signals?

4. I was informed that MBP's can output "bit-perfect" ...erm....sound(?) using the optical(?)...Can I utilize that with the AD700 somehow?

5. Is there a "need" to buy a separate sub woofer with the A2's? I'm not a bass heavy guy...and from the demonstrations, for the "in-field" usage, which I'll be doing (using it from the desk for moi only)

6. Does changing the wires/cables for the A2 give a big performance boost? If so, how much would it cost? (if its about the difficulty, I can handle them easily )

Well...I apologize for the unclear/massive amount of questions... But I am beginning to appreciate music now...I'm even taking music appreciation 10 1

Oh and my budget for the DAC/Amp if necessary...
well..I AM a college student but I can produce(?) $500-700 per month tutoring But as of now, I don't want to spend too much...so under $300...but I'll be looking more for sub $100 area

Thanks in advance!

*p.s. sorry for editing back and forth btw A2's and A5's -_-
I'm very indecisive...(especially when I have time to think)

Hey Happy. I have an X-Fi, AD900, A2s, and a Zero DAC/AMP.

1. No you don't need an amp. A2s wont need it and in my opinion the AD900s don't need it. However I think both sound much better through my Zero than they do with the X-Fi.

2. Not sure because I don't have a MBP.

3. It wont be a weak link as long as you use a good cable.

4. Bit perfect out the optical? It will need an external DAC. You would then connect your headphones to that.

5. At first I really missed having a sub-woofer with my PC speakers. After several months I finally ordered a partsexpress 8" sub for $80. It had RCA out and in so setting it up with the A2s was easy. Unfortunately the sub isn't that musical and kind of overwhelms the A2s with boom. At low gain and crossover it worked well for the very low frequencies and added just a bit of extension to the A2s for music. At any settings it added a lot for movies. In the end I think I got used to the speakers without a sub and the sub had an annoying buzz so I returned it. The A2s are heavy on the mid bass and once you get used to it you may find it's enough.

6. The A2s don't really have any cables to replace. It comes with a power cord and what I believe to be 16 gauge speaker cable to connect the two speakers. You need your own RCA cables if you want to use them. I'd suggest a good heavy pair.

There are a few DAC option under $200. I use the Zero which can be had for less than $180.
