are we addicts?

Thread Starter
Do we realistically expect ever using all those cans and gadgets? Do some of us not experience anxiety when we read head-fi and wonder about other people's gear? Do people here collect other things (wine, stamps, coins, etc.)? Let's reveal a bit of our junkie personalities here, for mutual amusement...

I can quit anytime I want to.

Hi. I'm Jon. I've been off headphones for...crud, I'm wearing them now. And talking about it.

yes, I am alcoholic to cans.

I hate headphones! Worse yet, talking about them! It's just... I don't know... it's just... I don't know... addictive, I guess.

But I'm definitely online more than 7 hours per week, yet fewer hours than I listen to music. For one, music is almost always on when I'm visiting Head-Fi, and then some... and then some... and then some!

Wow! Listening to music is even more addictive than talking about headphones.

Should I feel bad about enjoying either? Is this a test or something?

If I leave the house without any portable audio gear I get the shivers...

I only fuss with my gear on weekends but I can stop anytime I want and I have the HDTV to prove it.

I spend a lot of time listening to music, and even more discussing them (around here)..

You're not a gear addict, as far as I can tell (you can still upgrade your source more , but keep it simple). But I'd say posting here is like doing crack for you.

Most people here (and in general) are addicted to music. I am for sure, and hopefully that will translate into a full-on guitar addiction. While I enjoy playing (lots, and my chops aren't bad), I still need to up my knowledge of theory, so that I can write music. Then I will be like a pig in the biggest pile **** known to man.

Does this include building gear? That's been taking quite a few free hours lately.

Yes!

And my latest obsession has been to study recorded songs in greater detail than previously (like really getting into the mind of the musician), because I have trained my ears (and have the gear ) to do so. It's all a pleasant struggle, of course.

Listening to music has always taken up a significant amount of my time, but headphones, amps and talking / reading about them has only increased since joining head-fi a few months ago.

I check back here too often during the work day...

There are always room for improvements.
But a person can still be an addict without have state-of-the-art components all through the system.
