Recommendations for fairly cheap closed/circumaural headphones? (AKG?)

Hey guys, i'm quite new to the headphone world and have some questions regarding AKG.

I currently own a pair of Audio Technica ES7s(i love them) and am thinking of purchasing a circumaural pair of headphones with more isolation. I was browsing and i came across the AKG K77 and AKG K99. Does anyone own a pair or have heard things about these headphones? Because I've searched the Head-Fi forums and haven't come across any threads that discuss these headphones, i think they're fairly new AKG headphones or something.. I can't find any reviews on these headphones either

The reason they appeal to me is that they're fairly reasonable at $89AUD and $109AUD respectively and i've read/heard a lot of good things about AKG.

Ohyea, do you guys have any other recommendations for some closed+circumaural headphones that are within my budget(~$150)? I know there are some really good headphones out there but they're all so expensive! Too bad im a poor Uni student.. It would be awesome if i could get some feedback on my first post

Thanks!

Welcome to Head-Fi. I suggest considering these closed headphones: Roland RH-200S and Equation Audio RP21.

Even with no experience in AKG phones, the only closed circumaural pairs that ever seem to get any love are the K181DJ and the K518DJ. To quote ericj:

Low end AKG is not loved by anyone.

thought of one more the k-271mk2

There was another thread asking about the AKG K77 and AKG K99 recently and basically, no one has heard them because low end studio AKGs have never been that good.

Oh coool, yes i will definitely look into these headphones, although i've never heard of Roland or Equations Audio..is Roland that famous keyboard brand?

Do you know what they sound like though? Like sound quality wise or what their sound signatures are like. Umm, for example in comparison to my es7s.

Btw, thanks for your recommendations!

Apparently the K181DJ is supraaural..? Which isn't really what im looking for, but cheers anyway

Mmm, maybe i shouldn't risk it with these lower end AKGs then..

I was doing more browsing and found the Audio Technica A500s which fufills my requirements pretty well. Closed/Circumaural and $150AUD. Does anyone have any opinions or experiences with these headphones? I might run a search on it too..

The M-Audio Q40 has been recommended in a recent thread for closed headphones in this price rage too. I have not heard the Roland, RP21, or Q40. I suggest checking out this link for the Roland, and searching Head-Fi and the net for "Roland", "RP21", "Q40" for better info. Having not heard any one of these and based on what I've read, I'd go with the Roland RH-200S.

Head-Fi members should always plan on spending more money to get better sound... because it's inevitable.
