I am looking for cans like these.

I was looking at HD555, HD595

Then I read more and shortlisted 701, ad700, DT880.

Some have recommended K1000 and W5000. But these are of a much higher price range.

Between 701, AD700 and DT880, which has a bigger "3D" soundstage?

Or, you guys have a better recommendation?

Thanks a lot.

Wow, those are some nice looking headphones.. Might go and save up for some of these.

Can these be ran off headphone out of an iPod, or a MacBook without the use of an amp?
you will need an amp for DT880.

AD700 can be used unamped.

What about the K701's?

As a general guide, headphones with an impedance or more than 50 ohm will be better with an amp.

if I am not wrong, K701's impedance is 62 ohms.

How much improvement do amps make? I've never owned any, so I'm not sure.

big differences.

If your can requires an amp or has a high impedance and you use w/o amp, it will sound soft and flat.

But there are many cans that don't need amps. So you still have lots of choices.

Yup, looking forward to comparing them. And you've got to update your AD700 thread when the AD900 comes in. :O)

The 701's give a better sense of space..But the AD700 does a better job at fleshing out the imaging. I heard the 501s are even more spacious then the 701, with a much better mid range.

Really depends on your source. If your source is crap, no headphone or amp will change that. Get a good source, and quality headphones and amps become more irelevant. But a great amp and headphone will reward you if you have a quality source.

So...it's mean the K-70X have better depth to create better sense of space?
what do you mean by fleshing out the imaging ??

Just a question donunus as to what headphones you do like as i've only seen you leave negative comments which of course there's nothing wrong with doing (as you stat why etc). I guess i'm just interested in what sets apart the cans you like to the ones you dont.

the mids are number 1. It must have good mids or its gotta go.

The 701s do a better job at making you feel like you are yelling at the bottom of the great caynon..I think the 701 sound stage is equally big with good depth.. Just that the AD700 has more vertical depth.. I have not A/B them togther, so take it with a grain of salt..Going off memory, the 701s was better at creating space..I have the 702 on my hit list. Will do a A/B when I get them. Fleshing out the imaging is my way of saying, theres a viseral feel to the imaging, notes, etc are full bodied and have weight and substance. Before the AD700, I only got that imaging with my hybrid PH BADA 12 amp. The BADA 12 and 701/2 were made for each other.. They are going used for 250.
