"Best" is quite subjective. So be prepared for lots of different suggestions/meanings...
My vote goes to the RWA iMod...

Sounds like good = expensive.

I agree DNSe is cool but I have never obtained any bit of improvement with such features. Just something different and more artificial. Samsung YP-Z5 is said to sound good as well, and supports gapless playback.

Totally offtopic, but does anyone know if the Ramos T8/iMovie sounds any good?

My Sansa c240 even sounds good to me, especially with my FiiO E3, and my
2XL Wrecking Ball In-Ear Buds. So, it it does sound good to you, then it does...

My first really good souding mp3 was the iAudio7. I loved this player, it was compared to the other players i owned or listened to in its own class at that time. This player was very emotional and flamboyant in its presentation and it was really exeptional in is own way. But for some reason i at the same time bought a iriver (the remake of the original triangular one) and a pair of ultimate ears entry levevel pro earphones. What i can say is as good the iAudio7 was with the 30 euro sony phones i had before as much it sucked and showed its weakness when using it with the ulimate ears. The cheaper triangular iriver on the other hand worked exeptional wih the ultimate ears. the iriver played with controll and also had lots of real drive in the bottom that was a real suprise for me at that time. Im gona upgrade my ultimate ears but i dont fell the need to buy a new player to replace this old 60 euro iriver T60, its great. iriver EUROPE | Products | Flash Player

I'm not debating what may or may not be the the best sounding. It's subjective.

My personal favourite at the moment is the Sansa Clip+.
