Bunch of stuff for sale:
Okay, here's the scoop. I spent the last couple of years putting together my little dream of a home system and simply love it. Brilliant synergy from great individual parts.
I literally just finished putting it together about 3 months ago. And have listened to it for about a total of a week as I've been out of town on work. It now looks like my traveling for work will only increase. So I can't really enjoy it and now getting a traveling (hotel room) system is even more important.
Also, I'm currently out of town but will be back home this Wednesday (traveling Tuesday) and would love to have everything sold and simply ship it out on one day.
So I'm selling the whole thing off. People who want more than one piece get priority. Would be happy to give discounts for the package or pieces thereof. I might be interesting in trading for something like a new version of some nice (RS series or vintage Grados) or a Pico with dac.
Here's what's up for sale:
Onix X-99 Cd player with brown-dog 627s - SOLD
Modded Heed Canamp - SOLD
Shek D1 Non-OS dac and Heartland digital cable - SOLD
DIY RCAs with magnet wire and Yarbo connectors - SOLD
AKG 271S with velour pads and an RAL cable - SOLD
Shek H1 portable amp and usb Dac combo - SOLD

First some introductory words. I think the stuff is in good condition but everybody's definitions certainly differ and I don't dig playing the condition game. So just consider this as used gear, beat up and nicked, etc. And if it's in better condition than that when it arrives be pleasantly surprised.
I also have about 10 pages of positive feedback here and you'll see that happens pretty frequently.
Also,I bought every single thing in here used so I'm the second owner.
I'm listing the prices that I remember paying, which actually may or may not be accurate, but I think they are pretty fair market value for used goods.
I'm not looking to make money on the stuff but don't want to take too much of a hit either. So make an offer but don't be offended or surprise if I ignore lowballers.
Next up paypal only (I pay fees) and CONUS only. Please, please, please don't ask me about shipping to Canada or Europe or Botswana. Sorry, I simply just won't respond.
Okay. Now the specific descriptions.

Onix XCD 99.
This is a sweet, sweet player. Simply astounding for the money. As many of you know it is the same basic player as the Music Hall, which goes for a bunch more cash. And the Onix just looks sharper IMHO.
So I spent about another $100 adding two 627 opamps on a browndog adapter and getting an Iron Jellyfish power cable for it.
Now, I think the power cable makes an audible difference and this little guy is a sonic bargain as well (check out the monster thread comparing it to the big buck guys).
The op-amp mods simply makes it a different machine. More authority in the bass, better sound stage, smoother, etc. Check the threads here and other forums.
Might seem a little silly to through that money into modding this inexpensive of a player but, like I said, the player itself is actually a quality player that belies its price and when modded I'd put it toe to toe with the big spendy boys.
Think I paid $250 for it and another $100 or so for the mods for a total of $325

Modded Heed Canamp
This is an interesting amp. First off, the LED doesn't work. I bought it used in that condition - had something to do with the modding. Everything else is perfectly functioning. I actually prefer it that way as for a bedside rig that LED gave you an involuntary retinal scan.
I don't actually know exactly what mods were done. But having had a stock Heed and comparing it side by side with the modded version I preferred the modded and it was audibly better.
This amp was the hottest thing since sliced bread. Then there was a backlash in the forums. No, an un-modded version won't kill a $1000 amp -- forgive the excited folks who heard this and got kind of hyperbolic about it. But, it is an amazing amp for the money. Lots of respected head-fiers have owned and enjoyed them, unmodded even. Soundstage and imaging are killer. Great synergy with all things AKG (people usually go with the 701 but it's completely great with the 271 I'm selling). It's worked well with IEMs, grados and beyers as well. But it's gold with AKG. Also, FYI these have audio input and outputs jacks on it for flexible connectivity.
Think I paid around $325 for it.

Shek D1
For those that don't know, this is a Non-OS dac (yes it reclocks) similar to Moodlab and Monica. They are very, very nice and people swear by them compared to even really spending stuff.
They have a different sound than OS-dacs, typically they are more musical and warmer but less edgy/detailed/defined/analytical. This is a serious DAC with liquid sound.
It is supposed to have an LED that shines directly through the footer. I removed that as it was bright as a nuclear explosion and a nightmare for a bedside rig. Everything else functions perfectly though. Also, I replaced the wallwart with one from radioshack that had more juice (although was still in spec – I asked Shek himself about it and he reported improvements with it). Actually more than a couple of people have these and have custom power supplies built for them running them in crazy expensive systems. I can understand why - it is a great sound.
Think I paid about $250 for this guy.
I'll also through in the digital cable from Heartland cables (I think) that I bought and thoroughly enjoy with it.

RCA Cables
This is a DIY RCA cables made by fallenangel using the Yarbo connectors attached to magnet wire. They are hands down my favorite cables compared to much more expensive big buck guys I had used (cardas, Zu, etc.). I think these are about 3ft.
Think I paid $65 for these and would have doubled that without blinking an eye.
SOLD

AKG 271S with RAL cable
I love these cans and think they are seriously underrated here but that's another story. Anyway, these include velour pads, regular pads, and custom pads as well as an RAL cable that I think is about 4 or 5 ft (and a nice metal AKG box to store the accessories in). I've tried about a half dozen cables with this and the RAL killed them all. Yes, they may have shady business practices and you may not ever get a cable if you order one, but if you do, man, they just sound simply great.
Think I paid about $295 for the 271, cable and pads (The cable was $200 itself!)

Shek H1 portable amp and usb dac.
This is a very respectable combo in the $200 range. Falls in very nicely with its better competition. Smooth and warm likes its home counterpart. What makes it unique is the looks, you either love it or hate it (white with a square black volume knob and a smiley face by the jack input). I love it and personally hate the standard hammond look - but that's just me.
Paid $200 for this (actually I bought this new for $195 from Derek Shek)

Like I said, people who want one than one item will receive priority. It's easier for me and these guys do have great system synergy.
