Ah...heard this one at AKFest in Livonia (near Detroit) about 3 months ago. It was nice. VERY nice.

If you are looking for a good cheaper alternative I can recommend the $1,500 Sony 5400. I like it better than the expensive Marantz players.

Bearing in mind the prices of McIntosh amps/preams/speakers this is a budget player. Economic crisis?
If this is the result of the crisis on high end companies I love it.

I have to say that the bling level of Macs always put me off, well at least until I heard some of their gear. I've heard them on test twice now, and both times I've come away just thinking "wow". Awesome bits of kit.

SACDs are great on this machine but it really shines on Redbook playback. Just awesome!

Yeah, I love mine. I am a dedicated vinyl fan and ever since I got the MCD500 I have been listening to less and less LP's.

How is the sound from headphones out? Which headphones are you using with it?

 

I am considering the MCD1100 as a single component system with headphones, but don't know how good is the headphone amp.

 

I am going to audition it but would like to have your opinions.

I honestly don't do a lot of HP listening these days (don't hurt me!) but I've used Senn HD-600, HD-650 and Grado RS-1 with the headphone out on my MCD-500 with very satisfying results. At least comparable to using an RA-1.

I had an MA6100 and it would kill someone instantly if you dropped it on them from 10'. It's still at my parents' place, one of these days I need to go get it and clean it up. It would probably make a decent HF amp.
