I recently bought some ALO modded Grado SR225's terminated with 3 pin Furutech XLR's from the FS section. I'm new to the whole audio scene, but from reading around to be truly balanced shouldn't there be 3 wires per driver? There are only 2, so I'm confused as to why these connectors were specially chosen (they're not an option on the site...)
I'm currently running them from an imod -> ALO jumbo cryo dock cable -> total bithead via a cheap 1/8 to 2x XLR adaptor I built, it isn't pretty and the 3.5mm casing wouldn't go on with 6 wires in so it won't last long
The cans do sound great though.
I would like to know what, if any, advantages there are to getting a balanced amp purely for these cans - I'm not intending to be buying another balanced pair. If there is no advantage going balanced I would be interested in getting a proper 1/8 to 2x XLR adaptor, and having had great service and quick delivery to the UK when buying the dock cable would like that to be from ALO too!
Edit: Sorry, more reading has revealed that having a separate ground for each driver makes them balanced, so no new ALO adaptor for me!
