Suggest a pair of interconnects for me..

Can anybody suggest a pair of middle-range ($100-$400) RCA interconnects for me? My requirements are:

1) My main sound requirement is instrumental separation must be good. I will be using this in a system with my GS-1 and HHF-1 whose main flaw (in my opinion) is lack of separation.

2) It must also be somewhat neutral.

3) Decently shielded.

4) Comes in short lengths (around 1 foot).

I'm using a Ridge Street Audio midnight silver currently and it's main flaw is that it's poorly shielded. I've also tried a DIY 3 strand silver interconnect whose bass was excellent but separation was poor.

Thanks!

I use Signal Cable stuff for all my cable needs and I've always been very impressed. I'm not one that believes there's a huge difference in cables, I just want a good quality basic cable and Signal Cable meets all my needs.

I am partial to Blue Jean Cables. However recently I have been using Zu Gede and IMO they have a very nice presentation, not necessarily better but different. However at almost 10 times the cost it is hard to recommend.

Another possibility would be the Sonic BL-1. Contact Moon Audio who sells them, occasionally they run an special in Audiogon.

Good luck.

I'm not really a believer in a huge difference in cables either. But of the two cables I have mentioned above, the dilemma is that one is below my threshold of listenability (on certain songs) and the other is above the threshold but flawed.

Thanks for your ( and MrArroyo's) suggestions...

One difficulty I've found finding interconnects is that every cable manufacturer overhypes their product like crazy. It's hard to decide which ones have real quality.

DIY! You'll like making the cables, I'm sure.

Honestly, I would love to but I have no idea where to start. I have no electronics knowledge/skills whatsoever...

www.SolozAudio.com

Jacob (soloz2 on head-fi) has a lot of good feedback and seems to make quality product at the right prices. His site is still being constructed, but shoot him an e-mail.

Thanks for your suggestions, I've placed an order for a 25cm headphile Blackgold interconnect mainly because I like Larry's work. There are just so many cables to choose from, I guess trial and error is the only way to find the right pair.

I like Moon Audio cables. They're not bad actually. I have a set and am pleased with the build quality and smooth over tone. It is a little expensive but a good cable. The nice thing about them is that they can customize the connectors if you are specific about something. My connectors are cardas and they are good.

Th other recommondations like Signal Cable and Blue jeans are good too.

I mostly use Blue Jeans cables. Excellent build quality and the prices are fair.

I might order a few from Vampire, as well. I've used and liked their jacks, binding posts and connectors, and noticed that they have fair prices on well-made cables. Half-meter interconnects are as low as $15. You can find them here:

Your suggestion of Vampire interconnects illustrates my previous point: their RCA interconnects start from $15 and go up to nearly $300.

How is one supposed to know which one to choose and what kind of effect it will have on SQ?

x2 on Signal Cable.
Great value for money. And overall very nice performance...

I use a lot of the Audioquest stuff as well as Acoustic Research. Audioquest sounds better though..
