D3 Python vs RSA Predator or Pico

Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase a portable amp that I will be using for at least the next three years. I like the Python because it uses triple A batteries, and I've always been abit paranoid about battery life. Especially since my Iaudio x5's battery can't hold too long a charge anymore.

If i'm looking at just getting one amp for long term use, would the added costs for a RSA Predator or Pico justify the better SQ over the long term?

Thats a decision you'll have to make on your own.

Where do your priorities lie? To me its SQ all the way. Otherwise I wouldn't even bother with a portable amp.

Based on my experience with the iBasso amps, and comparing them to some of the competition that you mention, it is very likely that the D3 will serve you well over the long term, while providing superb SQ.

The Predator is my choice for long term ownership due to lifetime warranted and it has excellent battery life. I had a few bad iBasso amps, and they took care of me 3 times, but one time it took 6 weeks to resolvethe issue.

Thanks for the input guys.

I was looking at your mini review thread as well HeadphoneAddict, I think I'll go with the Predator. Have to wait till next month to get it though. Trying to keep a budget.

I believe sound quality is not the reason to choose one over the other. I say so because w/ op-amp rolling you can make many of the iBasso amps sound superb or you can get a different flavor to match your cans.

However, the fast turnaround you get from Ray would be impossible to beat. Not because iBasso would not take care of issues, far from it since they have an excellent customer service as demonstrated time and time again. I say so because Ray also has fantastic customer service and Ray is a lot closer for those in CONUS.

Don’t know if you read Skylab’s Portable amp roundup here, but it might help you out. BTW, I own a pico and I’m extremely happy with it, but you have to have patients as they’re made to order
