Looking for a transporter - details insdie

Thread Starter
Hi
I am usually hearing FLAC and MP3 and CD on my PC
but
I want to hear also when I am not near my PC (using my DAC also)
So, I was thinking of getting some kind of transporter
I prefer one that have output for coax and optical (and maybe USB to - that will be cool)
Good quality
and with the ability to read home made CDR and maybe MP3 and FLAC (if it has flac it will be VERY nice !)
As for the price, kind of hard to tell, but maybe even up to 2000$ (I think that should do it)

Thank you!

What about a squeezebox (or transporter if you wish)? It can not read discs by itself but acts as a network client using the PC as a server, plays FLAC natively and has both optical and coax output.

I was really conflicted about getting a SB Duet for a while, but considering the price of one + PSU + network storage, you can get a laptop to handle the task for far less money and arguably do a better job (there's some contention out there I've read about SB effectively streaming large music files...like 24/96 FLAC files over wired ethernet whereas with USB to DAC there are no issues...at least in my case with a Benchmark DAC). In addition to this, I really like foobar.
