D2000 recable help (or recabling in general)

Im about to recable my D2000's with the D5000's cable. My biggest issue is which cable on the D5000 cable is left and which is right? Theres no indication anywhere so is it just a crapshoot? Or does it not matter?

I know some songs (See Beatles White Album) have very distinct sounds coming from each speaker so I figured I need to make sure the right wire goes to the right side.

Well I feel dumb. I can touch the cable to a terminal and see which ear the sound comes from.
