Sounds similar to me I am now thinking about getting an ipod. God knows why or how that happened. Just suddenly started thinking about it. Have a touch (that I use as a remote for squeezebox, maybe that started it)and a hacked mini, now tempted to spring for either the 120 classic or a good deal on a 80 or 160 and have the whole collection in my pocket.

I agree, if you're going with a tall form factor, go with Zune flash.

I'll laugh when ever I see someone shake their ipod nano violently to switch songs in a mall and hit someone in the face! You know the law suits are going to fly on this issue just like those Wii controllers law suits!

It seems that the main competitor has taken a step in the right direction.

AppleInsider | Microsoft may have thrown Apple an iPod nano headache

From what I understand, Steve Jobs was going to announce 4GB for $150 and 8GB for $200 right up until the day before the "Let's Rock" event, which is when Microsoft announced 8GB for $150 and 16GB for $200. Last minute, Steve announced the same capacity and pricing, which went against the shipping of 4GB and 8GB to international markets and the marketing material that went out to some Apple stores that only listed 4G and 8GB. Score one for Microsoft, competition and the consumer!

that's funny, if it's true. the ipod beaten at it's own game.
but good improvisation and they seem to deliver the 16gb pretty quick.

I have a Sony because Sony is the only remaining company that PUTS ACTUAL DAMN BUTTONS ON THEIR PLAYERS.

Seriously this touch-pad/touch-screen nonsense can go die in a hotel fire. It's a portable player and I want to be able to use the controls "blind."

Very big sticking point for me, very big. Also the A728 craps all over my old 3G Nano in terms of SQ and especially bass. The screen's larger and much nicer to watch video on, and the picture is crisper and better.

I love my A728, and I was not quite so enamored of my 3G Nano, and I was one of the few who liked the "fatty" Nano. The squarish design took me back to the days of my ultra-thin Sony and Sharp MD players.

The touchpad or touch input on all Zune 4/8/16, Zune 80 and Zune 120 can be disable for tactile input

Huh, I didn't know that. Interesting considering how I was looking at getting a hard disk based Zune for video and to build a traveling/transportable setup.

You can't please everyone. Any product that tries turns to crap.

I just got my new nano and I think it's superb. It's hard to imagine how they'd take it further. The thing looks like a piece of art and it functions very well in my hands and ears.

I had a funny conversation yesterday at Staples where I asked one of the employees if they carried any "iPods." This guy actually worked at Staples for 8+ years and he's in charge of the computer section! Here's the convo

Me: Hi, do you guys carry the iPod Shuffle?
Him: No, we only carry mp3 players.
Me: Oh, umm do you guys carry any iPods at all?
Him: No. (he takes me to the mp3 section) We only carry mp3 players.
Me: I thought iPods were considered mp3 players?
Him: No, iPods have a lot of technology in them so they're on a different level.

I didn't know how to respond to him so I just thanked him and told him I'd just browse around

The SQ, at least to me, on my new Touch 2G isn't as good as the A829 or my D2 (HP out). But with all the features in 1 compact little setup you really cant complain. There is, hands down, not another player that can compare to the touch. Besides, if I really want the best SQ then I should get an amp and be done w/it. FWIW the Touch is UNTOUCHABLE ATP!!! The games aren't so bad either (when I get up the $8.00US I'll buy Bejeweled!!!).

Personally any player that isn't Drag and Drop is a no-go for me, don't want to deal with any applications, the Line out dock of the Ipod is tempting but the interface doesn't seem simply enough for my uses, which would be while riding my bicycle I have the player on my right hand while hold the handle bar and at work the KFC I have to have the thing in my pocket and I press buttons through my pocket to change music.
I was worried when I ordered the Iaudio 7 about that issue, but thank god for the hold option, I was able to change music with the volume buttons and pause/play with the menu button and if I need to change volume or go to menu I could just flick off Hold and there you go

That's why we've seen images of 4GB models in international markets. Even Best Buy Canada has the 4GB models for sale on their website. It showed up this past weekend. There were complaints of missing 16GB models last week too. Competition is nice.

How about the iPhones? :P I mean, those VoIP Wi-fi + microphone accessory setups are pretty cool, but they just don't come close to the real thing.

Actually, I heard the HP out on my iPhone 2G for the first time a few weeks ago (stupid recessed headphone jack; got my adapter to work then), and it's probably one of the best HP out I've heard on an iPod. I've owned and/or heard every iPod save for the 1G, 2G, touch 2G, nano 4G, and iPhone 3G, and, wow, I really like the sound I'm getting. This is through my slightly-modded Grado SR60s, and I've never genuinely enjoyed listening through the HP jack on any of the iPods so far except maybe the 5G, but that doesn't come close to the bass I was getting on the iPhone 2G. Great stuff.
