240GB drive for iMod - Please say this will work!

Thread Starter
Just read on Engadget.com that Toshiba announced a 240GB 1.8" hard drive that will be available for the holidays...and it's PATA! Vinnie could probably say for sure, but I'm really hoping this can be swapped into my 5.5G iMod. 240GB would be enough for my entire lossless collection!

Here is the announcement with drive specs:
Toshiba Announces 1.8-Inch HDD Family With Industry-Leading 240GB Capacity for Portable Media Players, Camcorders and Ultra-Mobile PCs

Ah, that's good news. I was so hoping for a 160GB Touch and then Apple announced that they would drop the 160GB classic.

but how's the price of it? gotta be real expenisve..

That's exactly what I am looking for. iMod with Rockbox at 240GB is a dream come true.

Power efficiency improved.. interesting

is this one of the spin drives? I had figured that those would eat up more power.. and hell you will eat up more power having to access a bigger archive anyhow - i think

the price will be the real killer, though

.

Still, I may be tempted if I can resell my 80gb hd to cover some of that

Maybe the next iPod Gen 7 will use this 240 Gb HD.

Does anyone know what cable/connector it uses? ZIF? I could not find any pics of this interface for the 240GB drive...

I've been looking for one of these drives myself. Want to use it in a Cowon X5L. I am however having a hard time finding a place to order from (I live in Norway). Seems most stores don't carry 1.8'' drives.

I am sorry but I think that the firmware won't use the 240go.

Should work just fine with the Rockbox firmware though.
