M-Audio as transport to a DAC?

It's been a while since I was last in the market for a DAC and when I last tried I found the internal sound card did too much harm before releasing the bit stream to benefit from a DAC.

Anyone out there have GOOD results using a DAC with the M-Audio Revo? It looks like when the 'digital' set is selected every option goes poof but without an actually DAC at hand to try I'm not sure what is passing through. Just CD? Lossless WMA digital info? WAV/CD/SYNTH mix? Let me know.

Pretty much can only think of Bel Canto DAC 1.1, MSB Nelson Link III at the price range I want to start in. Any others in the $500-700 range used worth considering? Or is this a fools erand and a dedicated player like the Sony SCD-C555ES would be better? I'd really miss having my collection available at a click and so well organised though

I'm wondering about this same thing. Although I'm not looking to spend near that much. I have my eyes on the Art DI/O that would eventually get the smART mods and the bolder power supply from www.boldercable.com . I also have my eyes on a DAC by Scott Nixon called the Dackit, and also the Tubedac. The url is:

I have an Bolder Cable modded ART DI/O (MENSA) with Bybee'd power supply. The results is incredible. I'm using Audiophile 24/96. I found it's digital out better than Revo's.

When digital is set on Revo, all data is passed through I believe.

Well as my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz makes an acceptable transport to my DAC (even considering it resamples to 48K), then I see no reason why the Revolution would not be even better...

Hmm wonder how the M-Audio DIO would be then. The 24/96 and DIO are from the previous generation. Kind of a digital gen -1 kind of thing compared to the Revo. Odd that the 24/96 is better still today. Oh well have to borrow it from a friend and check it out.

That would make a really bad transport. Lots of noise and vibration. You would be much better off buying a cheap cd player with spdif.

Where does noise and vibration come in as big factors when you're talking about digital and non moving parts?
