Advice Needed: iPod source, speakers

Hi guys, I think that this is the most appropriate place to ask this, so here goes...

My friend asked me for advice about a dock for her iPod, namely because she doesn't want to listen to music through her computer (sound is broken/messed up). I don't know very much about speakers with an iPod as a source, so I thought I'd ask here.

She isn't interested in headphones. She wants speakers. I would say that her budget is ~$200 USD, but the better bang for her buck, the better. I recommended her some monitors, using the headphone jack output of her iPod as the source -- to avoid 2.1 systems for their extreme separation of low end and high end.

Any takers?

Being a headphone oriented forum, I doubt you'll find much information here, however you can try ipodlounge as a good starting point for reviews of what you seek:

Have her buy a $30 LOD from sendstation and pair it with the Audioengine A2's. That should fit nicely into her price range.

kill her because she isn't interested in headphones

I would second the Audioengine 2s. The huge bass output couples well with the anemic bass of the ipod

oh and definitely use the lineout instead of the headphone out for the A2s if you decide to get them, a world of difference between them

Ok. Thanks for all of the suggestions!

My friend is going to get the Audioengine A2's. Audioengine A2 Desktop Speakers

She wants to know -- in order to hook up her ipod to them, is all she needs this thing: https://www.sendstation.com/us/produ...etdock/av.html ?

Also, are there any particularly good deals for these speakers?

It depends on which ones you get...the one with the Tangband drivers are OK...not super good, but (lets say the Z2300) for $99...it's better than everything at that price point.

You actually just need the dock connector, not he breakout cable.

If she just needs the dock connector, then do the Audioengine A2's come with the cables needed to hook up her ipod to the speakers through the dock connector?

So is this correct?

So yeah, get her the pocketdock line out usb.

Easy Connections
We’ve included 1/8 mini jack and RCA inputs so connecting A2 is easy. No software installs, plug-ins, or sound card upgrades. Just connect the audio output (or headphone jack) from your computer, iPod, Airport Express, Sonos system, PSP - or any other audio device - into the A2 rear panel input. All cables that you may need are included.

That was quoted from Audioengine's website.
