Any such thing as a 1/8" connector w/ 1/4" screwable attachment

Instead of making a new thread I just changed this ones title since its resolved now.

But on my audio technica ath-m30s there is a 1/8" connector, but it comes with a 1/4" connector attachment that screws on.

I am wondering if you can buy these types anywhere on the web or in a store. google didn't help, but I maybe not have been searching for the right thing.

I have a few other headphones that I would find this very useful to use with my guitar or amp, since I'll most likely be leaving my ath-m30s plugged into my computer at work.

The colored wires are left and right and the gold is ground.

Do you not have a DMM to test for continuity?

I dont have a DMM, I've never done this. I read a lot of DIYs here and elsewhere and asked a lot of people on here before I did it.

My main worry is that I shorted out the headphones or something and now they are a $55 piece of plastic. Is this possible?

As long as you didn't break any wires and didn't apply any current like a battery or whatever, the drivers should be fine.

Nice informative topic!

.... Not!

Ohhh thats a relief, so by mixing up the ground and putting that wire on the left or right or something wouldn't break the headphones?

break any wires? what does that mean?

Ok, I am just confused now. I cant get anything, not one sound. I've tried every combo of colors, I must have broken the headphones.

So thats it?

Can I repair them? they're audio technica ATh-m30s

So I decided to take a look inside, and it looks like the copper one was the right, red was left and blue was ground. The pads just slide off and the case is only a few screws.

I can't think of any way you could damage headphones by connecting them incorrectly, though you may not get any sound.

If the wires were bare, they are likely enamel coated. Make sure you scrape/burn the enamel off before you try and connect them.

Ok so make sure you connect them to the right prongs on the plug. How are you soldering? If you wanna test if you got a connection, touch some spare wire from your solder joint, to a battery, to a lightbulb, to the tip/ring/base of the outer plug.

So you mean, I could have damaged the cord? or where it connects to the driver(s). So maybe replacing the cords would fix it? I am just confused and well, honestly I cant see how I messed it up I followed the directions pretty closely. This just sucks.

Sorry for another post, but I think I fixed them. Like error401 said that they might be enamel coated. I took a napkin and tried to rub off anything on the wires and got some sound out of the right ear. So I then scrapped the wires more with a razor and now I get sound out of both headphones. Sorry I overreacted or was just a nub about it, but it looks like they are ok now. Now I jsut gotta heatshrink them and they should be fine.

Before I scrapped the enamel off I turned my ipod up full and started touching the wires to the different connectors and got a few faint sounds, so then I did the scrapping thing. I honestly thought I broke them.
Thanks for any help.

If you're still looking for threaded 1/8" plugs have a look at Qables, they carry some although I've never used them.

I cant seem to find them, can you link the item your talking about?
He may be talking about these.
They're primarily for the UltraSone headphones. They work well for those and are pretty good quality for the cause. you will have to figure out your own boot to cover up the back though.. and if they'd even fit whatever you hope to mate it with. I think they're a bit pricey for what they are (and the only place I know of that has them), so purchase wisely.

If they are the only place that sells them then nevermind. I guess I can just salvage the one on my ath-m30s that I put a new cord on.

how can I tell what goes where, left right ground

There are 3 soldering points, it actually looks nearly exactly the same as those ones from qables.
