Mini MacMillet - A work In Progress

Been away for awhile...

I see Headroom is going to produce Pete Millet's Hybrid amp as published in Audio Xpress. Cool, Congrats Pete!

Here's my take on the design.

This amp is pretty much the same as Pete's published design with a few additions:
- Dual BUF634 output stage
- No output resistors
- Big-Ass Cerafine output caps
- On-board regulated power supply
- Orange Drop 716P caps

I'll know how it sounds by this time next week!

I designed this amp to look like a miniaturized version of a vintage MacIntosh power amp. Construction details include Hammond 1590DD cast aluminum box, drawn steel boxes cover the output devices and voltage regulator, and a big Panasonic FC without vinyl jacket sticking out of the top (behind the tubes).

The faux trannies will be painted black as will the back and sides of the box. The top and front of the box will be polished with a clear topcoat.

I normally don't post unfinished projects but I had hoped it would be done tonight (Don't you hate it when you forget to order something?) and I want to get dibs on this design before Tyll designs the Headroom version
(note to Tyll, you can have this design - just send me a production model and we'll call it even. XOXOXO)

there,
erix

NICE job, Erix! I do believe you have earned yourself the title of Master of Casing...

Only one question- where'd you get the drawn steel boxes?

IMO he earned that back when he made that redwood burl case.

Great work erix, as usual.

Nope - made my own layout and etched it myself. That pre-made board is nice but...

That would be your basic LMB drawn steel box, part #537-M18 from Mouser!

I had to massage them a bit to work in this application - folded the ears in and mounted trick-nuts in them so they could be attached by screws from the bottom.

I love having a sheetmetal department.

ok,
erix
