Good luck Texas. You guys are going to get slapped around a bit. Galveston pictures look like Bells Beach. Don't do it, Bodhi!

We're gonna get hammied.

No doubt about it.

I'm staying online till the windows blow (or the electricity goes off) ... which ever comes first.

Gotta family member with a generator and will most likely evac that way sometime sunday depending on the power situation.

BTW: Bells Beach, FTW! (classic spot)

That's the only reason I evacuate here in New Orleans. You know, I've never seen a single residential window blown out by winds here (Katrina, Gustov, Rita, etc.), not that it can't happen.

Don't have to worry about trees anymore... Katrina blew 'em all down.

I'm reasonable out of the way of storm surge.

But with out electricity, you are going to steep, stifle, and sweat like a Tennessee Williams prostitute with scarlet fever, wrapped in an electric blanked.

Here's a tip for you evacuees: put a bowl of ice cubes in your freezer. If you lose power for a significant amount of time, the cubes will melt (duh). But if you get the juice back while you're gone, the water will refreeze into a solid mass and you'll know to chuck the food in your freezer. Also, put all food into a garbage bag, then put the bag in the fridge and/or freezer.

Be safe!

Best of luck, all of Houston and most especially those along the coast, this is going to be gawd awful for those remaining in the low lying areas... Thinking the best of thoughts for you all!

Galveston is already partially submerged. Very ugly situation setting up down on the coast with the storm still 12 hours away.

I'm happy to be 60 miles inland, myself.

And even so ...

We're going to have 80 mph winds.

Well said. The main thing is to be well prepared and to stay safe.

I've got 20 gallons of water and about 40 gallons of booze.

Oh yeah ...

And my RS1's.

Most loosers around here surf. Hell, we even have a world championship here.

But I don't and despise the tanned bastards.

Hope everyone there is safe, through the backside of the hurricane. My brother-in-law will be flying out of DFW on Sunday, assuming the tropical storm strength winds don't shut it down.

After five days of peanut butter and crackers, bottled water and candles ...

I'm finally treated to the glow of my Paradisea's tube once more!!

Power just came back here on my street!

I had no idea how addicted to modern amenity's I was.

Thank god it's over.

60% of Houston is still without power.

After a five day wait, I still consider myself in the lucky bunch.

Godspeed to the rest.

Thought I'd revive this thread since Texas beaches were treated to some more insanely good surf today (Xmas Eve Day 2009) ...

This is a photo from 10:30am today at Matagorda Beach (the same beach my original post featured photos from).

Little bumpy as the offshore winds were on it really hard, but there were some very makeable tubes rolling through every ten minutes or so:
