Which would you suggest (AT-A700 or Denon D2000)

I plan on using these headphones primarly when I'm at my uni's library between classes (so open cans are out). I will also use these for car trips, and maybe at home at night when i want to listen to music a bit louder (apartment.)

Players
Sandisk Sansa Fuze (no amp atm, but I *may* be interested in one if they are <$100 in the future)
Laptop with integrated sound =(
Home Theater amp (Onkyo 797) (least often used I'd imagine)

Music is diverse, no rap but most everything else (Everything from Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Big and Rich, to classical)
Songs in either Flac or high bitrate VBR atm (but could eventually convert to all Flac)

Options I'm thinking about most are

Audio Technica
A700 (no ADs because the are too open, and it seems the A900 is not worth the $100 extra)
Denon
D2000 (more $$$, looks like it sounds better, looks less alien like in public) (2x cost, but it seems like the Denon D1000/1001 isn't nearly as nice)

Opinons?
---Please Skim through my post before replying ------ (ex: don't tell me how great AD900s are Thanks)

Personally I would just use cheap earbuds for use in library and then get the D2000s for use elsewhere. Even the D2000s would leak sound depending on how loud you turn up the volume. But go for the D2000s.

Thanks for the input. Forgot to say how much i can't stand in the ear, on the ear ect headphones. They are quite uncomfortable over time.

That's why I wanted to stick with a full size can. For better sound, more comfort, and a bit of isolation. At the expense of size, weight and $.

(oh, and some sound leaking in and out is okay.... just as long as it's not leaking out too crazy.)

I have not heard the A700 but I do own the A900 and pushing them through a Zero Dac with the Knob between 10 and 11 oclock my wife cant hear the music or game sounds even in the same room.

They seem to isolate pretty well and are extremely confortable. Plus they are 40 Ohm cans and can be driven well even unamped my A900's sound good off of my laptop.

They are "HUGE" you will get looks especially in public I only use mine at home.

A900's are going pretty cheap used lately:

Audio Technica ATH-A900 Art Monitor Headphones - eBay (item 150289240393 end time Sep-04-08 14:16:53 PDT)

Just my 2 cents but I am pretty happy with Audio Technica right now and will definately buy their brand again.

Looks like the review of D2000 is better.

D2000. But if you're not amping it, and it's for portability, go D1001. Unless you're getting the D2000 cheap ($193 on Amazon). It's supposed to be a big step down from the D2000s, but it's half the price, no-amp-required, and more portable.
