club music, the JVC ha-rx700 for around $35. Use the left over $65 for a better all around headphone.

how about the sennheiser hd280-pro?
Amazon.com: Sennheiser HD-280 Professional Headphones: Electronics

Good all around phones in that price range. The bass is pretty substantial too.

Dance music requires the best stuff... I dunno what you're talking about.

I can't comment on the RX700 as i only have the RX900, but I sorta agree with that. I disagree as to whether the ideal headphone for one kind of music is ideal for all kinds.
Also, I can't say "best stuff" when discussing sub $100 phones without cracking a grin.

Maybe it the vinyl I get in the US but club music not the best recorded music. What you can get away with when playing music at a club or hall you cant get away with at home or with an audiophile system. The phones, I use for club not suited for jazz. I wouldn’t dare use my “best” cartridge to play or mix dance but that’s just me.

I agree 100%.By "all round" I mean phones that are acceptable for the most genres with all the trade off and benefits

I'd go with the Denon D1001 over the HD212, especially since now they are just a few more dollars than the latter. The HD212's overpowering bass becomes a big headache after an hour. Both are supra-aural if that's what you're looking for.

I never said the ideal headphone for one type is ideal for all types, and I definitely don't think that.
I mean if you're talking about $100 closed headphone, you're not talking about ideal at all. Just finding a good headphone to fit the bill is the most I'd hope for.
My other comment was just that saying 'oh you only need $30 headphones for dance music' is way off.

Gotcha. At this point into my pursuit of headphones (noob 1.4), I'm thinking it's better to have two or more sets of phones to accomodate different music, than try for one pair to do them all.

Understood. I have 10 pairs and counting. So far all are “adequate” for certain music

rds what kind of "dance" do you listen to acid, house, hip-house, disco, or. If you get a chance to hear the 700's (or900's), give them listen. I found the 700's sounded good playing club.

dance: eurlberg, hawtin, ellen allien, booka shade, miss kittin, villalobos, mayer, etc... that kind of stuff.
But electronic in general - a lot of stuff... way to much to start listing.
I'll check out the 700s if I get a chance.
