ATTN TO ALL KGSS BUILDERS: PCB ERRORS

Thread Starter
I've just been informed of at least one error in my kgss amp board and hybrid power supply (which really should be called the fet power supply, since there are no tubes in it). The amp board error is footprints, so for those who haven't started building, it won't affect you much (sorry eric!). The power supply error is more serious, and will require cutting a trace and adding a wire.

I don't know of anyone besides eric and KG who has actually populated the amp board (not even me, although I was just about to solder the transistors in today), so hopefully any further errors can be avoided.

I don't know of anyone who has built the fet power supply, which is good because the minus portion of the supply is shorted out on the board.

So, the errors.

--KGSS amp board--

PROBLEM: The can-type transistor footprints are the wrong way round - the flat side of the circle points the wrong way. The '1 3' markings are correct though.

SOLUTION: Place the can-type transistors with the flat side facing the curved side of the circle. The cylinder transistors are 2SC1815, 2SA970, 2SC2240, and 2SC2705.

--FET power supply board--

PROBLEM: The negative (lower) diode bridge is erroneously connected to ground - it should be connected to the anode of C5.

SOLUTION: Break the trace connecting the anode of D13 (the end without the bar) to D3. Add a wire connecting the anode of D13 to the anode of D16.

D13 anode

Cut through this trace with a razor knife.

Connect the D13 anode to the D16 anode.

Hopefully this will be the last of such public safety notices, but one can never know for sure. If I hear of any further problems they'll be posted in this thread, or at least a reference to the new thread will be posted here. PLEASE pm me or email me if you find
something amiss.

Thanks, this sort of clarified things a bit, even from Kevin's emails. (not his fault, I can be kind of dense some times and he's been overworked lately)

Well, I went through the board with datasheets in hand to make sure (before I redid all the transistors), and I couldn't find a single instance where the base was not connected to the parts where it should be (this is with the transistors oriented as to follow the silkscreen). Am I reading the datasheet incorrectly, or simply blind?

Thank you Kevin for notifying me that the datasheet gives the pinout looking from the BOTTOM of the transistor.
